Senior trying for Cal Polys

I'm applying to Cal Poly SLO and Pomona for B.Arch, but I hear they don't accept very many people. So in order to either calm (or intensify) my fears, I ask, "Will I get in?"

Southern California resident
-GPA 4.12W 3.8UW; Ranked 67 out of 533 (~12.6 percentile)
-SAT score of 1880; CR 660 M 620 W 600
-SAT II Math 630 Chemistry 660
-3 Honors; English 1, English 2, Pre-Calculus
-5 AP; Chemistry (3), Language and Comp. (3), Literature and Comp., Statistics, and Physics

Your input would really help as I need to decide whether I should apply to UCs or some other college with a different major if my chances aren't good.

Pomona isn't that hard to get into so I'd say you're in for there, but SLO is a different story. They're highly competitive, so it just depends on all the other architecture applicants. Your SAT score since Cal Poly SLO only looks at verbal and math is 1280, which is about average. I'm not sure about your GPA though. Cal Poly SLO asks for only 10th and 11th grade with up to 8 extra honors points. I'm not sure if you're weighted GPA that you listed is only 10th and 11th grade, but if it is, then your GPA is above average. I'd say you're not way out of range and you've got a good shot, but it's not a definite. Cal Poly SLO's architecture program is great so a lot of people want to go there. I'd say Cal Poly Pomona, you're in and SLO is a maybe. Although, if you get into both, i'd definitely go with SLO. Personally, I think they have a way better program than Pomona and i love the town.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Made me feel a lot better. (I thought I had pretty much doomed myself to PCC.)

Yes the 4.12 listed above is my 10-12 gpa weighted. I have 8 honors/APs total, but one of them was in freshman year.

Your username reminded me something: I'm also applying to USC. xD Yes it's a long shot I know, but it's just for kicks since I really love that campus.

Well, then you're a definite in for Pomona, and for SLO, you just never know with that school. It just depends on the year. I know a girl two years ago that didn't get in for engineering with a 4.4 gpa and i'm not sure about her SATs, but they were pretty good, but then later year, a guy who got in for engineering with 3.8 gpa and ****ty sat scores, like he got in the 1500s out of 2400! So you just never know with that school! But, you're not out of range!

As for USC, definitely apply! The campus is great! The teachers are amazing and so is the program! I'm sure you'd love the program! And if you wow them with some great essays, you might have a shot! I know a girl that's here with *ty stats, and yours definitely are not *ty! She's just an amazing writer so she had stellar essays! So give it a shot! You never know!
