Hey guys,
I’m going to be a senior in the fall and I’m worried that my course load won’t seem rigorous enough.
Right now, I am planning on taking:
AP Chem
AP Calc AB
AP French
Shakespeare and the Bible (its an honors english class at my school)
Advanced Portfolio Art
Also, I know I’m only taking 5 classes but people at my school only take 5 or 6 full year courses.
Okay, so the problem is that I’m worried that this won’t seem rigorous enough because I heard that art isn’t counted as a core class so its basically like taking an elective and then it looks like I’m only taking 4 core classes. I really enjoy art and I want to build a portfolio that I can submit to colleges. But, I am not planning on majoring in art or taking a lot of art classes in college. So, do you think it even makes any sense to submit a portfolio? Another problem is that I didn’t submit my work at the end of junior year to be graded for ap portfolio (which was really dumb looking back because it would be an indicator of if my work is good or not to send to colleges) and it is too late for me to do so now. Also some colleges that I’m looking at don’t take supplements.
I was thinking about taking AP art history instead because I think it would be interesting and I’m not taking a history as of now (I know its not a history course) and it would look better for college, but honestly I would prefer to actually be working on art.
What should I do? Please offer any insight you have about art and how it is perceived by colleges. Thank you!
