AP Language and Composition
AP Statistics
AP Chemistry
APCS A
APUSH
Spanish 4 Honors
Next year (senior year), i was planning to take the following classes:
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Spanish
AP Government (1/2 semester, other half is mandatory macroeconomics with no AP option)
European Literature
Multivariable Calculus (one semester), Linear Algebra (other semester)
Will this look like I’m slacking off to colleges? I have the option to take AP Lit rather than European Literature. However, AP Lit is the hardest course in our school and I’m very likely to get a B in that class.
Is this a serious question? It all depends on the schools that you’re looking at, and how challenging the course load is for you. Someone might find this load to be too much, while others might find it to be too little. I am in a somewhat similar boat as you, but instead of APs, I decided to do dual enrollment. That seems like a good course load, as for how most seniors graduate with only knowledge of pre-calc.
Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear. I meant to ask if my senior year schedule looks less rigorous compared to my junior year schedule. From what I know, colleges don’t like to see you take it easy in senior year and reduce the rigor of your courses.
Well, it is a little less rigorous in that you have five classes instead of six, and European Lit instead of an AP English. You might be OK as is, though you could consider taking the AP Lit and not worrying about the possible B. One B in the first semester of a hard course is not necessarily worse than an A in an easier course. Or you could consider adding a sixth course (maybe dual enrollment) in whatever field you’re trying to emphasize.
AP Lit is fun imo. If you love reading, I suggest you take it or atleast consider it. During my junior year I thought I wouldn’t like it but now I do and i’ve gotten extremely better at writing.
Take European lit. It is a rigorous class and your full schedule is beyond expectations even with it.
In any case, no admission decision rests on one class taken senior year.
At this point, essays, recommendations, and ECs will matter way more.
If you are applying to very competitive colleges they will want to see that your guidance counselor checks off the box on the recommendation saying you have taken the most rigorous schedule available at your HS. I suggest you speak with your guidance counselor to see if he/she would.check that box off with your proposed schedule. If the answer is yes then your proposed schedule should be fine, if the answer is no you may want to rethink it.
