Hello, I’m afraid my senior course load is not rigorous enough.
I am taking:
AP Stats
AP Lit
AP Pysch
AP Gov
Marketing (forsure)
and right now I have my last class as another business class.
Do you think this is rigorous enough? My junior year gpa took a heavy dip because I loaded myself with AP Calc (B -) and AP Physics (C+) when I am not a math or science person at all so this makes me very hesitant to take AP Calc BC but I know it gives college credit. Also I’m taking the last business class to earn a pathway award from my school, is that good enough for college though or would this make me appear to be a weak applicant. So far I like all of my classes but the last one I still up in the air. I could also take another AP course but I’m not sure what I would pick. My senior year responsibilities include being DECA president and Make-A-Wish co-president, plus doing college apps themselves. I really wanna go to Georgetown but that seems unrealistic at this rate.
Four APs is definitely rigorous enough, however does your school offer any math classes that go beyond AP Calc? AP Stats is generally better if taken in college, and it is usually left for the people that don’t want to take AP Calc. If you are struggling with APs, it might not be the best idea to take many (depends on how rigorous your junior year courseload was).
Psych and Stats are considered an AP lite, whereas Lit can be extremely variant in difficulty (depends on teacher).
If you didn’t do well in AP calculus AB, don’t try BC and stick to AP stats. It’s lighter than AP calculus BC, but since BC is harder than ab, odds are you’d end up with a c. Also, calculus AB does grant credit if your goal is a business major.
For Georgetown, you need a strong background in foreign Language (+ good idea to pick it for a subject test) so if you’ve not reached level 4 or AP and/or haven’t scored 700+ on your foreign language subject test, take that. If you are really really bad at it, double up in social sciences (whichever you’ve not taken from AP Euro or AP World - assuming you took apush.) That would be better than AP psychology.
Top colleges will appreciate that you were willing to challenge yourself taking physics when you’re not strong at science. Top colleges pretty much expect this so it was the right move.
Why do you like Georgetown? People on this website can help you find colleges with similar characteristics that aren’t as virtually impossible to get into.
Note that you’ll need three subject tests - based on your posts, English Literature, Foreign Language, and History would make the most sense.
