Hi everyone! School starts in a week for me and I’m going to see my counselor later today to get everything squared away with my schedule.
Here is what I have so far:
AP English 12
AP microeconomics
Regular Physics
AP Statistics
Agribusiness/Animal Behavior (both are two classes but I need to take both for a program I’m in)
Health 1/2 year/ study hall other 1/2
I’m unsure about the microecon and AP Stats. I’m horrid at math, and while I’ve had As and Bs in every other class, my Cs in every math class have brought my gpa down way too much. I would like to get my GPA up before I send my apps in, so that is why I’m not sure what math to take. Calculus is a no-no, but my other options are Alg. 3, AP Stats or regular stats.
And for microeconomics, do you have to know a lot of math? Obviously you do, but to what extent?
I want to major in either veterinary science, business admin. or psychology with a forensic/clinical focus.
I could sub a class with anatomy and physiology, forensics, business law, marketing, another business class, and I will see other options. I’ve already taken AP Psych.
Also, I have to take a half year of health to meet requirements, so would having that half year of study hall look bad? Should I replace it with an actual class?
Thank you!!
How about you try AP stats and switch to regular statistics if you need to?
Micro as taught in high school, requires basic algebra. You’ll be ok.
Considering you want to do veterinary science, I would probably do something different from AP Micro. Can you do AP Bio this year (unless you’ve already taken it)? That’s a far better AP class for a doctor to take. While AP Stats might be hard for you, I think that learning how to read charts and graphs could be useful for a doctor, and if you get a good score on the exam, you don’t have to do it again in college :). Since you also want to be a psychologist, maybe try forensics instead of AP Micro. I would say DEFINITELY take Anatomy and Phys. instead of one of those courses.
Keep in mind that even if you took AP stats and get credit, it’d be in your best interest to take it in college because it’s a class that is important regardless of internship - it goes under “relevant coursework” on your CV but notbifbyou took it in high school. Taking AP stats will thus be useful in many ways and will guarantee an easier time when you take it in college (which in turn will give you more time for your prevet pre-requisites.)
@theakjohnson yeah I think I am going to replace Microecon with human physiology. And in my school forensics is a half year course so I may alter my study hall to that, but I’m not sure just yet.
@momofsenior1 I already fulfilled my requirements for foreign language! I really have no desire to take it when I could be taking a class that I’m more interested in.
@MYOS1634 thank you. I think I’m going to keep AP stats on my schedule for now, but I’ll make sure that if it’s too hard I’ll have a class to switch to to replace it.
