Sentence Competions without Learning a Ton of Vocabulary

Any advice? I have a decent vocabulary. Usually get all the sentence completions right except the last two. Memorizing vocabulary words for me is futile, they never stick more than a day or two. I usually eliminate it down to two and pick the wrong one. Help!

I would personally work on straight practice but if you have any extra time on your hands study some etymology.

Deciphering the context of the word (or words) the sentence is looking for helps me. I can usually get it down to a rough meaning and then analyze my answer choices. Also, knowing word roots can come in handy.

@ raiderade: Which book would you recommend to practice from before I tackle actual CB tests

I say when you're stuck on a word, try your hardest to think of any words that have some similarities with like structure or roots and hopefully itll help you out

They never stick? Well you can't expect them to "stick" if you don't review them. Unless you have a memory disorder, memorizing vocab shouldn't be a problem. Its helped improved my CR score tremendously.

@ Quix : of course I review them! That wold be common sense. However, come test day my get my nerves tend to get the best of me. My mnemonic devices and such are often very convoluted. That could be a potential problem.
