<p>i saw on a picture, students having this "carry biN" for stuff. on move in date, does ucsb provide us with some kind of moving container for our stuff? or rent?</p>
<p>those big bins that you saw in the picture are the ones that ucsb provides for us. hopefully most of us will have a chance to use them since they will be in such high demand.</p>
<p>Anyone have any experience with how hectic the day is? I really don’t feel like getting all stressed out just because of parking and unloading on my first day :P</p>
<p>The most stressful part is probably the elevators, especially in San Mig/San Nick dorms. You can only fit one trolley per elevators, so people might get stuck waiting for the elevators to return to their floor only to realize that the elevator is already full.</p>
<p>if a lot of people come at the same time, which is usually the case, then yes it is hectic</p>
<p>It’s really not too bad. My daughter was on the top floor of San Nic, and it went something like this: Upon arrival on campus, we had maybe 15-20 minutes of waiting in the van before we were able to pull up in front of the dorm to begin unloading. Because of the staggered arrival times, there was no problem getting a rolling bin and all her stuff, including a mini fridge, fit into one bin. My son and his girlfriend were along as helpers, the three of them waited in line with the bin while I went and parked the van in a parking structure and shuttled back to the dorm. During this time my daughter was able to register her bike with the police or security folks who were set up on the lawn and lock it up. All in all it was about 30 minutes of waiting in line with the bin before we got into an elevator. There are plenty of volunteers on hand assisting with bins, elevator useage, and answering any questions. When we got to her room her roommate had already moved in and lofted her bed, so she and her parents were able to advise us about that. It was definitely a plus to have an extra person or two along so one person could wait with the unloaded stuff while another gets a bin and the third parks the car, but it could be done with two people as well. Lofting the bed was the hardest part, and unlofting it at move-out time was even worse :). Good luck and enjoy!</p>
<p>what i did last year was arrive late lol, just before the check-in hours were over for the day. my assigned move-in time was 11am on the saturday, but i got there at like 5 or 6. there weren’t many people anymore, so it wasn’t hectic at all, and i didn’t have to wait so long to get my keys.</p>
<p>yeah last year the was complete opposite, from what i heard the people who came at the 10 am check in time said there wasn’t much of anyone, but around 5-6 it was kind of hetic. I remember 10 years ago helping my brother move into the 7th floor i think it was of san nic and what a hetic move in day as the halls were crowded with people and all their stuff and moving moving outside with the bin all over the place</p>
