Yesterday, I took the ACT for the first time. I'm pretty sure that I did good on the english and reading sections, and math was ok. But I don't think that I did so well on the science section. I used the "jump straight into the questions" strategy. For those of you who think you did well on the science section, what are your strategies?

that is the recommended strategy for the science section. i did that too and i got owned

i did that too and got owned

i used to do the jump-right-in thing, but it never worked for me. It took me awhile to figure out what worked for me.
yesterday i made myself skim all the passages before hand so i know what the heck they're talking about then i went to the questions. I only glanced at the graphs b/f the questions to see the ind./dep. variables. I think it worked really well for me, other than the last section where i felt a little rushed.

I did it too and I got PWND

I did the same thing and its going to be painful looking at my science score again. On the last act I got an 18 on the science section, on this one i possibly could have done worse. i had to guess every single answer! but the reading and grammer parts were extremely easy and the math was suprisingly easy as well. hopefully my scores in those other areas will make up for my science >.>

I did the same strategy...

...and it WORKED!

Usually I just jump to the questions unless it's one of the conflicted scientists passages. Then I just jump to the specific part of the passage depending on the question asked and ignore all the rest. I did this in June and got a 31 on science and I finished this one with about 5-7 minutes to spare.

i do the skip to the questions

i am a quick scanner, so i'm able to quickly find what they're talking about

i was sooo lost in the science section....

Let's post a little Q&A...
the chem passage with the Unknown A and MP questions thoroughly confused me. This was mostly because I was already lacking in the time area and I kept mixing up Methyl with MP....
anyone remember specific questions from this passage? i'll keep thinking... :

there was something about H20 in there and the reactant product..

^go to the thread titled: September ACT-POST your Predictions and Thoughts!
it already has a lot of the sci questions on it. but most ppl had trouble with the last section, so don't expect too many "for sure" responses.

This time I didn't skip to the questions, I read and underlined and then I went back and underlined the part in each question that said what figure the question was asking about. I wasn't pressed for time at all and I ended up doing really well (I think).

Mintlemonade: That was my strategy for the reading section (except prose and humanties passages)

Eritas: I did, but, you're right, there was little resolution, and the thread was too busy to get a response to a particular question. :

What about the question about the purpose of the lever?
I think I answered it would hold some of the weight or something... were there two answer choices similar to that?

ya that required some outside knowledge of what a lever does

ya you are right... i hope there were not two other answers like that cause i just put that it allows you to hold/pick up something way heavy with little effort... somthing along those lines

the answer was that it required less force to push down.

eritas was that what i explained or were there a lot of answers that were similar

Ok. good. Well I thought another answer choice said something about the lever specifically assisting the girl? It sounds like the same answer to me, but I don't know...

Oh! What about the question where the three students' viewpoints are presented and it asked the fact that would primarily weaken Student 1's argument?
I think I answered something about something not reacting with something else??

ya i think i put that too... but there were two answers like that a and b i think

Someone please explain to me what the heck was the experiment with the MP and Unknown A.
I strickly skimmed and all I remember is that there was an original solution that the teacher made them wait on for 24 hours. They then added some amount of Unknown A and it turned red... Anything else important??
