***SEPTEMBER 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT HAPPEN TO THE SCIENCE SECTION?!? WAS THERE A CHANGE? IS THE SCIENCE GOING TO BE HARDER THEN?

@thecookier I heard that there would be 6 instead of 7 passages. Not sure if it’s going to be harder. I finished the test in Preparing for ACT 2015-2016 booklet and the level of difficulty is still the same, I think. There are some questions for which you cannot find the answers in the passages though. Those questions require basic knowledge of the subject, but they are not that hard, so rest assured. ( For ex, There was one passage about layers of the earth, then a question that asks what the possible cause of an earthquake is.)

Btw anyone know the difference bw like and as? I remember doing ACT practice tests in a Prep book, and there was one question in the English section: The people who stood up against X, (as/like) some did, were persecuted. I forgot the answer for it, but which one would you guys chose? Thanks.

Good luck to all of you taking the test tomorrow.

Get a good night’s rest, and pack your ID, snack, caffinated drink and pencils tonight!

I had been scoring 34-36 on the red book and 32-33 some of the practice tests. However 2015-2016 practice test I got a 35. Is that a good sign that the test will be a little easier like the red book? I am hearing that the red book tests are way easier. Any input would be great:)

Good luck to everyone taking it tomorrow!!!

Hey I had one quick question, am I allowed to use a TI-84 Color? And good luck everyone!

@sIronMan yes you can use that calculator! good luck to you too.

can someone please explain how the new essays are going to work?

Can I use a TI-83 Plus?

@distractify yes you can.

Thanks man!@collegebound11x the essay is 40 minutes and more comprehensive, meaning requiring more detail for examplesx and thesis. It’s kind of like a debate essay. Hope this helps and good luck!

Oh boy…

@sIronMan thanks for your advice! i just am a bit confused about the perspectives thing. are we supposed to argue which perspective is correct or is more justifiable? or are we supposed to refute all three perspectives?

Intro, 1 Paragraph that shows the strengths of each perspectives, one paragraph that shows the weaknesses of the perspectives, and one paragraph that illustrates your perspective and why its better AND weaker, conclusion.

@collegebound11x it’s picking one and refuting the others here’s a link to a sample essay hope this helps.

I’m ready to 36 this easy test

Good luck everyone! Any tips for finishing the science section? I’ve tried both reading (ran out of time) and just going right to the questions (doesn’t work for all cases). Any tips?

Done with studying…even though I usually get like 27 on the science section, I’m gonna get 36 this time.

@zawadscki Haha same. I usually get 30-31s in Science, but today when I took a final Science I got a 26 even though I got 28 on June ACT Science. I guess I was burned out but I’ll call it a night.

Does anyone know how efficient the test booklets are, especially for science? In my self-printed copies of practice tests, the questions are often on different pages than tables and graphs, forcing me to have to turn back and forth, which is so annoying.

Are these tests like that too? Or are the questions matched up with the tables and graphs to make things easier?

ALso, I have a timer on my watch which ONLY beeps once to begin the timer. is that too much?

Finally, how strict is the timing? Like if they tell everyone time is up, and im finishing up maybe 5 seconds worth of questions, whats the penalty? is that allowed?

Thanks for any clarifications!
