September ACT 2016 Science

Does anyone think the science curve was tough? I exited the test thinking science was my best part of the test, but I was stuck with a 29 (compared to 36E, 31M, and 34R.) I need to review my practices, but I definitely averaged above a 29 in my practice. In the end, I got a score I expected, but this disappoints me, because I feel I had the potential for more.

Yes; my scores were reasonably similar. I got a 35E, 30M, 36R, and 27S… and I’m going to major in biochemistry or health sciences! :-/ I definitely thought that my science score would be around 32… I was averaging 33 in practice and felt okay with it. I knew that E and R were my best, since they always are, but definitely wasn’t expecting a 27!

Can anyone offer some tips for science? I think my main issue is timing… On the June ACT, I got a 31. But on the September ACT, I got a 27… This, combined with my poor reading score, brought down my composite.

At least you’re not me. April 2016 ACT Science was a 35. September 2016 ACT Science was a 22.

Is science weighed less heavily than the other subsections? I have heard its not as important as say math because science doesn’t really test science, its more just reading with more jargon. I knew science would be my worst section but its 4 points lower than my next lowest. Is that a big gap?

Don’t read all the stuff with science. Do the questions and refer to the material that gives you the information. It saves time and keeps you focused on the right content. ACT Science is easy if approached correctly because all of the answers are in the graphs/reading material and all you have to do is interpret it correctly. Without any prep I got a 35 on science by following this strategy. For the poster that scored a 36 on reading but a 27 on science, try to approach your science section more like your reading section if that makes sense. Hope this helps.
