Serious Time

Ok guys I need some help now. I am planning to apply to a few of the following Universities:

Cornell University

Princeton University

Stanford University

University of California @ Los Angeles

California Institute of Technology

University of Illinois – Urbana

University of Minnesota

University of Michigan

University of California @ San Diego

University of Texas @ Austin

Purdue University

University of Colorado

MIT

University of Buffalo - New York
You all have already seen my resume and stuff. I am still working on to improve it, doing things what i like and trying to get credited for it. NCO 2nd level is on 11th lets see if i can bag something. State rank was 2nd.

Now I want help from guys to help me shortlist from the above. In terms of financial aid and other stuff too. I plan to give SAT on June 2nd. Also tell me when do i start applying to these Universitites.

I am in Clas XI now. XII starts in May. Ah help me out with financial stuff too. My dad is an Army Officer so consider very little amount from my side, taking a loan is a possiblity but lets keep that as the last measure.

I want to pursue aerospace as my major. So feel free to suggest Univ. other than stated above.

Thanking you all in advance,
Ajay

And what help do you need?....

Well I haven't seen your resume - and I know nothing about you but in terms of financial aid,
UCLA doesnt give fin aid to intels. But apparently they have a small amount of scholarships that they give out to intels that are the cream of the crop... well that's what I read on cc and some people have said it's true and some said false. But in general, all UCs dont have finaid for intels (so.. that includes your UCSD).

I'm not sure about other schools on your list but I think a couple of them do not give out money to intels. Generally, public schools dont have finaid programs for intels - so you should really check on the school's website/

Usually, applications for admissions come out in September so i guess you could begin apps in September...

Yesterday?

I think you have awesome chances at the majority of the schools listed. I actually recommend cutting some of them out and replacing them with more selective ones!

Oh, BTW, financial aid will most probably be a big problem. Most colleges don't give aid to international students. From your list, however, I know that at least MIT and Princeton are need-blind to internationals (that is, your need for financial aid is not a factor in admissions and they will give you money if you need it).
I am pretty sure that all those second class universities you have on your list (University of Illinois

thanks guys....So can anyone suggest any better universities too with aerospace as major? And i guess if i start applying by september wouldnt my 12th class results be a problem cos they will be out somewhere in june 2008

What are your grades like?

In class X i scored Maths: 88 Science: 97 Eng:90 Social Studies: 94

Will give my SAT soon

How many times do I have to say this:

You DID NOT win the International Informatics Olympiad!

No Indian has ever won it.

Because i never took part in it:D

Your school grades are just as important as your SAT if not more important.

I never took part in that too...(perhapes that must b the reason...:p..)..
SAT 1 is higher in level than ACT..although ACT is a real time constrainer..

i had already stated that earlier that the olypiad is not an international one it was a National Olympiad conducted by Silverzone. I just copied it down from my previous post so its still written 'yesterday' .

Yeah I am working hard to get good marks in 12th. So guys tell me the marks will be out in june but if i start applying september this year wont it hinder my application?

Do you realise that if you change the name of a random competition to the name of an Internationally accredited competition you're infact lying?

Also, are you sure that you actually won the whole competition? I have the list of the winners that won the 2nd stage(which still doesn't qualify this competition to be called 'National' but whatever) and I don't see your name in it.

I'll give you a piece of advise, you can take it or blow it. If you don't list your activities exactly the way they are - you will get into serious trouble.

Another thing, as far as I know India started taking part in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in 2002. The annual Indian Computing Olympiad (ICO) is used to select the team of 4 students to represent India at the IOI. ICO is held in three stages:

* Zonal Informatics Olympiad
* Indian National Olympiad in Informatics(INOI)
* International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp

This is the only one that actually has the government backing as well as the right infrastructure to call it a 'National' competition. I'm also pretty sure you didn't even clear the Zonal's of this competition if at all you took part in it. If you do win this particular competition then its something to boast about.

You go Lakshya!

picturing NoFX as an overweight black woman

Lakshya,

are you really from Dubai? I just read a national geographic article yesterday about your place and it's like a "perfect world." Everything's so glamorous there: shiny new skyscrapers, extravagant man-made islands, lavish life styles... I wonder how you guys can really live a normal life in that kind of a place. Not to mention last year's 16% economic growth, you guys must be an Arab miracle.
