UCLA and Berkeley?

I'm tired of waiting for there decision. I only applied to UCD, UCLA, and UCB so I haven't gotten anything yet. It's quite annoying.

lol @ your bad grammar

no offense to Riley, ur gramma is even worse than mine… The only reason i can think of why UCD not gonna release their decision until the mid april is because the budget cut and limited officer to handle this tough job.

lol @ this thread. This is how I feel about UCI!!

Davis really needs to get their act together. It is nothing short of irritating that admissions decisions haven’t been released. Like the OP, I only applied to ucla, cal & ucd. Obviously they perceive themselves as equivalent to cal & ucla and therefore can release decisions so late in April.(i really dont believe this, im joking).

SMCguy, at least UCI started sending out their decisions!

I agree with SFwarrior, it’s annoying because UCI and UCSD are higher ranked and yet they have been sending out their decisions. I know I am not Cal/LA material, but I may have some slight potential for Davis, which is why applied, also because they are the closest to my house and I lucked out with the fact that they have a design program.

It’s not like UC Davis solely decides when to release decisions. The UC Office of the President probably decides this.

I’ve been warming up to the idea of Davis. Their housing options are great compared to Berkeley’s. They teach iPhone programming and beer making. Their campus is almost the city in itself. But, unfortunately, their weather sucks (and academics aren’t as good as Cal’s yet).

I was reading on a freshman board, and several prospectives said how great Davis’ weather was. The people commenting have probably only visited during spring and fall, the only 25% of the year where Davis weather is decent. Either that or they live in a tundra.

EmpathyInAnarchy - I live in the Sacramento area, and it gets VERY hot in the summer and pretty cold/sometimes rainy during the winter. Fall and spring are the perfect times to come, you just gotta watch out for pollen though…

I saw the UC Davis forum and saw that the decisions came out for freshman…I was very shocked that some people with very low stats (for example, some dude with a 3.042) got accepted and people who were pretty stellar got waitlisted. I almost feel kinda bad for them but at the same time I have some hope because my GPA is a 3.06. Still though…though I might be going to Sac State more than likely because money is very tight for my parents right now, and I doubt that FAFSA will give me anything…and my parents don’t want me to take out a loan. But who knows.

^ Depending on your major, don’t fear the loan. A good rule of thumb is: don’t take on more debt than you’ll make in your 1st year out of college. I think I’ve read your major is design, so I don’t know how good the job prospects are for your major. In my mind it’s probably like a humanities major, where you either work for the government, go to professional school, or have to create your own jobs (i.e. do something amazing and write books or start your own business). Although, it might be unlike humanities, in that you’re learning more of an applicable skill; in that sense, it might be better than a humanities degree in and of itself.

Since the loans are liberally subsidized, I’m considering taking them and speculating with them even if I don’t need them (even if my return is modest, I should be able to make more than the accumulating interest). My major’s average salary is ~50k, 70K out of Cal, so I have some leeway.

Don’t fear the loan, but don’t love the loan either. Be rational about money, even though it’s hard for almost anybody.

lol. I apply only Berkeley no else other.

^ I sure hope you had someone revise your personal statements then

Riley, there are plenty of people waiting for schools like UCSD or UCD so please learn to be patient and shut up. The fact that you can’t even differentiate from “their,” “they’re,” and “there” is reason enough for me – if i was an admissions officer – to bar you from an institution of higher learning. UCD is a school that is a part of the UC system and they can do what they deem is fitting. They are not obligated to give you any sort of answer on your whim; all you can do is sit down and wait.

EmpathyInAnarchy , design is not like humanities where you have to write a whole bunch of stuff, but it’s still in the College of Letters and Sciences. It’s more like studio art, which is what I want to minor in. Design has 3 concentrations: fashion, interior architecture, and visual communications (that’s my concentration). Maybe I can have my parents pay for the tuition while I can get a loan for housing, who knows.

People hate the weather in Davis? I live about an hour south and I think the weather is great, maybe it’s just because I have lived her for majority of my life. Also in regards to someone at some point mentioning it smelling like cow ****… you get use to it.

105 F is not great to me, especially when accompanied by sub 40 F winters.

Hmm guess not but it’s not like there aren’t tons of things to do to stay cool. Waterparks, pools, floating the river. I love summer in the central valley.

I agree, I just prefer to not have to adapt to the weather. I grew up in the bay area, where weather is typically milder, so that is probably just my bias.

How is the weather at Davis? I heard it gets really cold…

^ Read the thread!! Hot summers! Cold winters! Nice spring and fall!
