Seton Hill

Hi! We'd appreciate any feedback that anyone has on Seton Hill's MT program. Thank you in advance!

My D auditioned for and LOVED this program! They have state-of-the-art facilities, and many of the professors from CMU’s summer program teach st Seton Hill (they’re an hour away from each other). The staff prides itself on giving a lot of individualized attention, and the local theatre scene affords students the opportunity to intern or work on performances. One of my D’s coaches said it’s an up and coming “hidden gem” of a program.

Thanks so much, DoReMiMom!

I agree to the tenth power with DoReMiMom. This is a program (and university) going in the right direction. In fact, someone else here can correct me if I am wrong, but the guy who was chairman of the department left a couple of years ago, and is now the director of the theatre program at James Madison. He was instrumental in getting SHU moving upward, and left the program in good hands. Seton Hill is not a new program, but they are now making their way into the conversation here, and in MT circles. what was a safety for western Pennsylvania kids in the past, is no longer taken for granted. And it is because they are earning the reputation. The new theater and facilities are great.

Side, note, but important: Dr. Gene and Iva Saraceni are a couple of the “old” profs who built the program. They tragically lost their daughter in the plane that went down in Lockerbee, Scotland in the late 1980s. Gene, or “Doc” as he is known, is a great actor and still does character roles on the stage in Pittsburgh. They donated Steinway pianos to the department as a way to honor their daughter, making Seton Hill one of the only “all Steinway” schools in the country. If any of our kids are lucky enough to meet a few Doc and Ivas in their college journeys, they will indeed be fortunate.

Very interesting…I really appreciate the feedback!

Awesome! I’m starting to research this program! Any additional information would definitely be welcome!

The BFA is impressive, but to me, it has ti be one of the best BA MT tracks out there!! I was wondering if you could double major with either the BA or BFA (I have a double major list thread going so this info will be helpful here)
