Has anyone else had problems setting up their Rice e-mail account? My son followed the directions and successfully set up his ESTHER Login, but it wouldn't accept his information for setting up an e-mail account. It said that they didn't recognize him -- invalid data. He's going to try to contact someone about it tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone else had difficulty.

Ds set up his account without any problem. I know that he shared his experience with the rice 2011 facebook group. I don't know enough about facebook to know if it is possible to see old conversations on there - but if not, tell your son to ask other people in the facebook group how to do it. :)

DD followed the instructions from facebook and had no trouble. You can find all the discussion threads on the facebook discussion board by selecting see all. Rice University Class of 2011 is the full name of the group.

I actually had a lot of trouble setting up my e-mail account last summer. Your son could try e-mailing the help desk, but I'm not sure how much they respond to questions over the summer.

Thanks for your replies. He tried e-mailing the Help Desk last night, so we'll see if they can actually help. There must be a problem on the Rice end with the data they input on him, since he was following the instructions and he kept getting a message that there was an error in the data -- as in, they didn't recognize his name or ID number.

It's helpful to know that it worked for others. This way he knows he needs to get them to figure out what the problem is for him. Thanks!

Have they sent you actual info on how to set up your e-mail yet, or is he just going off of what people said on the facebook group? I remember trying to set up my e-mail early last year, and it didn't work for me for a little while, where it worked for some other people. Just give it time, and don't worry.

They sent out instructions and asked that they set it up by June 1. No help from the Help Desk yet.

Man I wish they sent out instructions for us. Two years ago we all had to mess with the system until it let us through.

I already have my Rice email address... but which username and password do you need to login to ESTHER? I live overseas and haven't received my package yet. :/

My son is going to be on campus starting tomorrow to do research this summer. Any ideas on who he could contact about his e-mail set-up problem if he doesn't hear back from the Help Desk?

To log into ESTHER, I used the ID number that started with an "S." If you received your financial aid letter, it's the SXXXXXXXX that's located on the top right corner of the paper.

DD used the Sxxx number but could not get logged in to ESTHER. Would not let her change the password and would not recognoze her. email was Ok but not ESTHER. We'll see if help desk answers.

I don't know how much help desk is staffed in the summer. Did your DD use a CAPITAL S? I think it says to use a capital, not lowercase. Sorry, that's all I can think of to try... You might try calling tech support on the phone. :)

If ya'll are looking for the passwords, I believe (but am not sure) that it starts out as your birthday. I can't really remember exactly, but I didn't log into Esther until the latter part of Oweek.

I set up my email account without any problem. the esther took at least five times to get in. first the password was impossible to change, finally worked after i repeated numerous times.
