Severe Anxiety Among Teens

A longish article from the New York Times:

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/10/11/magazine/why-are-more-american-teenagers-than-ever-suffering-from-severe-anxiety.html

“In 1985, the Higher Education Research Institute at U.C.L.A. began asking incoming college freshmen if they “felt overwhelmed by all I had to do” during the previous year. In 1985, 18 percent said they did. By 2010, that number had increased to 29 percent. Last year, it surged to 41 percent.”

We’ve had some chatter on it part way through this thread:

What a shame that the focus for treatment in this article is on a private pay facility that costs $910 per day.

In the other thread I suggested EMDR ( a hypnosis like therapy that can induce feelings of safety), tapping (EFT), and Tai Chi, which offers both exercise and relaxation- at the same time. Real Tai Chi is based on martial arts, and involves feeling powerful and strong as well.

I think ^^ means the NYT article was posted in two posts in that thread, # 43 and #57. Maybe these threads should be merged.

This thread features the NY Times article, which is kind of buried in the other thread.

Its the same discussion.
