Im a high school student in California, and my GPA dropped severely this semester. Up to the end of first semester junior year, my unweighted GPA was 3.83, but i completely bombed this semester, and I got a 3.23 this semester. My overall unweighted GPA dropped to 3.70-75 (ap bumps still pending). i was just being stupid and i have no excuse for the drop in the gpa. also my schools is really competative so my gpa would probably place me around the 25-30th or so percentile. Our school doesnt do weighted GPA, but these are all the honors/AP's i took.

Chem honors( 10th grade, 2A's (with hopeful ap bumps))
Pre Calc Honors (11th grade 2 A's)
AP Chemistry (11th grade 2A's)
AP US History (11th grade, one B and one C (bombed the ap test, so im not considering a bump))

My sat score is 2130 (640 verbal, 750 writing, and 740 math)
I took sat 2's (chem and math 2) in june, and hopefully get 750+'s on both.

I want to know my chances at the following schools as either an Industrial Engineering or Accounting major will be affected:

Case Western Reserve
Georgia Tech
Virginia Tech
UC Davis
UC san diego

@halcyonheather i got B’s in ap chemistry, but the teacher said if we get a 4 or 5, we can get a 10 percent bump for both semester. im pretty sure i got atleast a 4 (i took chem h and ap chem, so it shouldnt be that hard) so im considering that I got A’s in the class. Same deal for apush, but i bombed the test, so no bump for that class.

@halcyonheather
am lit regular: B
spanish 3 (regular). B
AP us history: C
Pre Calc Honors: A
Business regualr : A
ap chem: B (hopefully A)

right now, its a 3.166, but with the ap bump for chem, it will be 3.33. so yeah, sorry not 3.23, it will be 3.33. But can you still tell me my chances at the colleges i listed.

Yikes, that is quite a drop. I had a similar grade drop, albeit in second semester of senior year, so it was much less of a deal, haha. Do you have any extenuating circumstances? It’s an awfully big decline from your previous grades, and junior year is what colleges tend to look at most closely.

The UC’s tend to rely pretty heavily on grades, so I don’t know about those, especially since they won’t be seeing your 7th semester grades. If you do well on your AP’s and get your grades bumped up, that would probably be the best case scenario. What is your cumulative GPA (including this semester)?

In any case, I would avoid applying ED/EA anywhere to give yourself that extra semester to bring up your GPA. Best of luck!

@Coriander23 my overall gpa is 3.70-75 (the one i listed in the post). the thing is i am doing the College Now Program, which is similar the the Middle College Program. Basically I will take all my 12th grade classes at a community college, i wont be going to by school; however i am still considered a student at my high school. i just take all my courses at a community college, so my gpa is fixed at 3.70-75, but i will turn in another transcript from my community college, and hopefully taht will be higher. how would you rank my chances at case western and georgia tech?

Looking at that (link above), it looks like you’d have a good shot at being accepted to Georgia Tech. If your schedule (freshman-senior year) is considered the most rigorous possible and if you did very well on your AP chem test, I don’t think the fact you’ve taken less than the average number AP classes of those admitted will hurt you.
