I am interested in sewanee and I was wondering since it is a D3 school do they have walk on tryouts for their sports? also If i decide not to play a sport freshmen year can i try out sophomore year?? Also do they offer junior varsity sports? And it says they have intramural sports but do those teams compete against each other? how many are actually available right now?
Does the whole student body drink a lot? what can I do if I dont want to drink every weekend?

fill out a questionnaire on the website and call the coach of the sport you are interested in.

Hey cgoof12! I am a current senior a Sewanee, and I think I can answer your questions. Our athletic teams do have walk on tryouts, and if you decide not to play your freshman year, you are more than welcome to try out later in your college career. We are always students first! So it is no problem if you feel that you should focus on your academics and becoming acquainted with the university before you become a member of an athletic team. We do not have junior varsity sports, but you are correct in that we offer intramural sports. The teams do compete against each other, and we have any intramural sport you can think of, everything from basketball, to soccer, to table tennis. We have several club teams as well.

I would not say that the entire student body drinks. There is no pressure to drink at Sewanee, and there are many other opportunities for you on campus. We have an amazing outing program that allows students to go caving, hiking, climbing, and so much more! We also have an outreach program that about 80 percent of Sewanee students participate in at some point during their college career. You can help rebuild homes locally or even go on “break trips” during out fall, spring, and Christmas breaks. We also have a student activities board that has an allotted amount of money per semester to spend on bringing fun things to campus and taking students off campus to do fun things. There have been trips to the aquarium, murder mystery dinners, laser tag, concerts, and something different almost every week. You should definitely not worry about being bored!

I hope you will come for a visit. You can learn so much more from a tour guide, and you will have the opportunity to eat lunch with a current student and visit a class. You can really experience Sewanee as if you were a current student. Good luck during your college search process!
