I think those are very interesting culture phenomenons that I'd personally be interested in learning about. Although I don't support porn and all that, and plan to wait for marriage before having sex, I wouldn't mind hearing about it at all. Learning about the history of a practice does not equal to endorsing the practice. Also, by taking on the society's problems head on, we can learn to better deal with it, e.g. writing legislations etc.

Sex is a beautiful thing. Religious conservatism isn't.

rooster08, youre so awesome i give you 100 ethiopiapoints, redeemable for a free vacation trip to addis ababa lolll

writing legislations, lilianphoebs!!! Good god noooooooooooooooo!!!!! Our freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

saw the word "sex" and decided to come join the chat.

I don't see any Yale endorsement of this, so I wouldn't be concerned that there are a few flamers on campus.

lol, i dont know what the word flamer means where u live, but here in socal, a "flamer" is a homosexual...i didnt see any hints at homosexuality anywhere in this thread

I got confused by flamer, too

but if flamer means pro-sex to you, then go ahead and call me a flamer, and I'm pretty confident you can call many many campus-dwellers flamers

even though flamer is too radical a word,

like it's totally radical and unheard of to be pro-sex or something. get with it.

lol.... good point. Didn't mean to say "ban it" or anything like that. It's just that porn kinda taking over the world and I'm kinda frightened ;) I support freedom, but I don't support the way sex is becoming a total perversion with no feelings involved except maybe that of aggression and dominance....Personally I think talking about it and making the word less taboo will help "kids" to know better.

oooohhhh ok gotcha, whew, I was like don't tell me they can legislate on sex! now that's just toooo personal.

most kids get the whole "when a man loves a woman and when a woman loves a man. . . ." but there's also the problem of kids ignoring love in favor of sex, or kids thinking they love and can handle responsibility when they really don't and can't and shouldn't

yeah, and they may be a bit confused about which is the bigger deal: love or sex. sex and all the good stuff come with love (when the time is right), but love and all the good stuff doesn't necessarily come with sex.

I think it's a really good idea. Obviously people are having sex in college, so why shouldn't they address a) how to do it safely and b) "how to make it last an hour" lol. Regarding the porn, I don't think they're promoting it, but rather trying to get people to understand why certain "actors" go into it, which I think is a good idea because we see porn stars is such a derogatory light.

I think it's so hilarious how porn sometimes has headers like "innocent girl" and "shy girl," but now really, what innocent or shy girl would be in porn? I was just responding to your comment on the "actors" in porn. They really have to act to pull that off.

have you seen this web site? some of the cartoons they have are totally tasteless and smutty, i agree w/ newt, it really cheapens sex. I have no problem with sex, i just have a problem with the glorification of care free sex and pornography--and yes they are supporting pornography, they are paying for the porn star after all! and i think porn stars should be seen in a derogatory light--they only perpetuate the sexist notion that women are merely objects to be used for the gratification of mens' sexual desires, which women have been working for thousands of years to overcome. and from what i've heard yale makes sure you know how to have safe sex by your first day of freshman orientation in the manditory safe sex workshop!

I agree about the presentation of sex week, at least on that website. Especially the links; I didn't find them that amusing.

I don't think all porn degrades women; after all, there are women who watch it too, I assume, and there are themes of domination where the woman is usually the dominant one. But in all honesty, I wouldn't know.

Hmmm I didn't realize there was a site..lol. Although, now that you mention it, do we know that the site is in anyway related with Yale? Cause you know, everything on the internet is true.....

And isn't the name of this school that we're applying to Yale COLLEGE???? lol

EDIT: ......even though CC blatantly uses the wrong name as well......omg how did we not notice this before???

I've seen it used both ways... on the Yale business card my admissions officer gave me, it says "Yale University".

They offer a preview of it...it's number seven in a series of 7 about evolution. It features select Wheaton students with differing opinions. We watched the entire series, it's all very well done.

What About God? (one hour)
Of all species, we alone attempt to explain who we are and how we came to be. This final show explores the struggle between science and religion. Through the personal stories of students and teachers, it offers the view that they are compatible.

oh, okay. My bad then :$ I just remember specifically that it's called Yale College from when I copied down the address for the teachers writing me references. All the materials from Yale that I've seen said college.

But still, it isn't an ".edu" address... does that mean it's not authentic?

I'm pretty sure "Yale College" refers only to Yale undergrad, while "Yale University" refers to all the undergrad and grad schools at Yale. That's the case at most universities. So yes, we all applied to Yale College, but Yale University includes Yale College.
