SFS or McDonough?

Hey guys!

I’m a prospective junior transfer student to Georgetown, and I really want to get in. I’m highly interested in both schools, but I was wondering which school is easier to get into as a transfer student? I heard that SFS students have really high critical reading SAT scores but mine is really low, 600 being my highest only. But I know I’m not a terrible reader, I just don’t test well. I did the IB diploma and I got 6 for my higher level English score and scored As in both my writing intensive courses at Barnard. As for math I got 700, so I’m not too worried about that. I’m interested in majoring in Global Business at SFS as well.

As for the Business School, I’ve seen that the SAT scores, especially in CR, are not as high as SFS. So in terms of that, I feel like I’m more set. But, the drawback is that I did not do particularly well in my econ classes at Barnard/Columbia, and I’m planning to study International Political Economy and Business in this school. I would love to go to this school because I heard it has the best recruits too. I’m just worried about my econ grades being a drawback.

Any ideas what to do?

Thanks!

There is no real advantage to applying to one school vs. another. I’d suggest applying to the school where you want to study and avoid trying to game the system.

As a junior student you won’t be able to major in global business, I think. You have to be a current sophomore in the SFS to apply. (There’s also an MSB Global Business part, but that’s also for current Georgetown sophomores.) I’m almost positive about that, but I’d have to check again. The MSB has an international business major with a focus on international political economy, so you could go for that. As long as you explain what you’ll be gaining from transferring form your current program.
