Sharing a bathroom w/ 40 kids on your floor

The title is pretty much self-explanatory. How does one go about doing their business in a communal bathroom?

Rather easily i guess i can say... i have NEVER had to wait for anything

It's not hard at all. It's not like all 40 want to use the bathroom at the same time! Avoid the "rush hours" like 11-1 at night and 7-8 in the morning, and you'll be fine. :)

My floor just has three showers and three stalls and the most showers i've seen being used at once were 2... Its not bad

Are they clean? The stalls at my high school get rather, let's just say, unsightly after a few hours.

Okay, well how about if you have to poop?

everybody poops. but if you prefer privacy, just go when there is no one in the bathroom. maybe early in the morning, or late at night. in my dorm ad the bathroom i use, usually from like 10-11pm the bathroom is empty. bathroom emptiness pretty much depends on people's schedules

It's really no big deal. There are 5 shower stalls in the bathroom on my floor for probably 50 people. I've never waited for a shower, but then again I shower at night. But even the people who shower in the morning don't have to wait long, if at all. The bathrooms only get cleaned on days when there are classes, so it can get a little messy by Sunday night (or Monday morning when we have a long weekend). But it's nothing like the high school bathrooms. But, I live in the honors dorm, and apparently this dorm is not typical of other dorms on campus.
As for pooping, you'll get over that fear as soon as you get sick for the first time. Trust me, everyone does it. Not a big deal.

Sit down, bring a magazine or newspaper, and take a healthy one.

I never thought crapping needed instructions...

The kids here know that if you don't keep the bathroom clean:
1) If someone knows who did it, they will get fined or if nobody knows who did it the building will get fined.
2) They will have to use the facilities as well and they obviously would not want to use dirty facilities so therefore they do not mess it up

Thanks all

yeah i like my privacy in the bathroom too. i hate it when there are people all around making noise and such. the way i get around it is checking out out of the way bathrooms or going v. early/late at night. sux but you gotta do what you gotta do.

... about the whole "crapping" issue.

I totally can relate to anyone who feels uncomfortable relieving themselves in a communal bathroom. It can be pretty embarrassing-- sounds, smells, coming out of the stall right after to see like two/three other people at the sinks knowing what you just did because they couldn't help but hear and smell it... sigh.

So what I do-- and some will think I'm freaking desperate-- but I find a really out of the way, infrequently used bathroom somewhere on campus (like in a library building or something) and do it there. More often than not, I am the only person in the bathroom at the time so I don't feel embarrassed that I've just made someone realize I'm taking a crap five feet away from them.

That's what I do. Just find a really empty, really infrequented bathroom to do business, and if you can hold it long enough start heading over there whenever you feel the urge.

Yep.

When you start a real job you'll be using a common bathroom with maybe 3-4 toilets. Eventually even your boss will be pooping next to you. Get over it.

Don't you share a bathroom with your family at home? True, they are family, but you still have to deal with issues at home.

Actually, the community bathroom is a great place to meet your dormmates, and if the one on your floor is busy or dirty, just walk upstairs or downstairs to another bathroom.

Always wear flipflops in the shower for health and safety issues. Go to Walgreens and purchase a pocket size of toilet sheet potectors for $1. (most public restrooms will have them, but just in case your dorm doesn't...)

"Don't you share a bathroom with your family at home?"

No. Each of my family members (including me, obviously) has his or her own bathroom, to handle their private matters... in private.

haha, people are spoiled these days. College life will introduce you to the real world !!!

Even if you do share a bathroom with family members (I shared one with 4 and survived), they're generally not in there with you while you're doing whatever needs to be done.
Trust me, when you get to college you will get over all of those insecurities.
And if you do buy the $1 flip flops make sure they have some traction. I know my $1 pair does not; I've slid in them a few times in the rain (before I smartened up and wore better flip flops in the rain). We actually "splurged" on my shower shoes so that I would stay upright in the shower. I'd rather spend $10 so that I'm not sliding (shower floors, especially tile, which is what the changing areas in our showers are get VERY slippery when wet.

i posted this thread a month ago, how did you people manage to find it in the abysmal hole that unread posts go into?

i have a question.

when you're changing into your clothes after you take a shower, do you do it in the stalls? because i know i cant do that without make the clothes wet...and you cant do it in your dormroom if your roomate is in there...
