I’ve been getting mixed messages on whether I should bring extra-long or regular length twin sheets. The school officially says that we should bring extra-long, but I read in the first year guide that regular sheets are fine. What should I do?

I am only a recent admit to Barnard, so I cannot give you firsthand experience yet. In my experience in general though, it doesn't matter. When I went off to college at Hofstra University, I was told I had to bring XL sheets, but I did not. The regular sheets I brought did fit though - they just hugged the mattress a little more than XL sheets would have.

Maybe you could PM justwondering (who just finished her first semester there) or churchmusicmom (i believe her daughter attends). They may be able to give you some advice particular to Barnard.

Hey there -

I had x-long sheets from my first school, so I just brought those. They were pretty loose, but with my mattress pads (I layered a foam one and a thicker filled pad) they were fine for me. Basically, if you like a snug fit, go with regular, and if you are planning on going with a good amount of padding x-long makes it a little easier to fit. Really you should be fine either way though.

i would go with regular because it'd be more likely you could use them again on non-barnard mattresses. i have XL sheets, however, and they are a bit loose, but they're fine.
