X-Long or Regular?

I was hoping present students, or more likely their parents, might be able to shed some light on the sheet issue for the Commons. I called housing and the person who answered the phone said regular of course! Yet, the book that came in the mail last week, "The Road to Vanderbilt" says X-Long!

So which is it?

Thanks

90% of dorms have extra long. That’s what I bought >_>

When in doubt, buy XL as they will still work on a regular bed but regulars may not work on an XL mattress.

I don’t know “for sure” about the Commons, but 100% of other dorms have regular, not X-long. I know this from my daughter’s experience. I have a son who will be a freshman in the Commons, and when I called housing, they told me Commons was regular too. I don’t know where that other poster got the information about X-long??

wow, really? We have always found XLong twin beds, even in third tier little local colleges where our sons attended sports and music camps, as well as in every dorm at Duke and UVA.
I thought XLong was the standard for dorm rooms to accomodate the reality of size of students who are adults?

In Branscomb and Towers, regular sheets will fit. However, the casing for the mattresses is a rubberized plastic (think hot & sticky) and most students will want an egg crate to soften up the mattress with a mattress pad on top of that. If the sheets don’t have deep pockets, extra long will help accommodate that egg crate topper.

We called on this last year … housing told us regular … and that’s what Vandy Barnard had.

They are X-Long, trust me I lived there. They are all X-Long on commons.

thanks, dirthog re Commons, and thanks to the parents of students who have lived in upperclass housing. very helpful.

the commons has regular length beds. i lived there last year, i know. i too was fooled, i bought x-long sheets only to return them for regular length ones.

Actually, the mattresses are neither regular nor x-long. Somewhere on the website it states the actual measurements. The mattresses are longer than regular, but they are also narrower and shallower, which is how regular sheets can fit on it. It won’t fit on there perfectly, but it will fit better than x-long sheets which will have too much extra material.
And definitely get a mattress pad; it makes a huge difference in comfort.

So, now we have 2 people who lived there - one said X-Long, the other said regular! I guess it will remain a mystery until August!!

i know that both my kids used the xlong sheets, in every dorm, from the commons to the towers. so… maybe both fit!

Get the extra-long.

OH my lord, I am telling u, I prolly changed my sheets at least 10 times, I had X-Long sheets, my roomate did also, and half my floor at least had them for sure, get the damn X-long and stop worrying about it

While finally rereading the Road to Vanderbilt booklet sent to Commons students, Page 27 says What to Bring:
Sheets (twin-sized, extra long), towels, pillows, pillowcases, blankets, and mattress covers.
