Has anyone shipped their kid's stuff out there in advance of moving-in day? D is an incoming freshman and is flying to Grinnell and taking the airport shuttle to campus. I would like to ship everything but her clothes in advance. Does Grinnell allow this? What's the best (cheapest) way to do it?

Hi. I called Grinnell to ask that very question about shipping in advance. . .
They suggested shipping UPS and sending around the
17th or 18th as they don't want to have alot of boxes sitting around for long.
Address the boxes with:
- your D's name
- mail box # (but don't write the word "box" because there is no delivery to PO Boxes there)
- Grinnell College
- 1115 8th Avenue
- Grinnell, Iowa 50112

PS -
Students can claim their boxes at the mail center in the student center. They suggest packing in manageable size/weight boxes that the kids can carry across campus to their dorms. . .

thanks, CarynW. Any idea of the cost per lb to ship boxes? I'm trying to compare cost of shipping vs extra baggage fees on the flight.

Sorry, waxfam, I really don't know the cost to ship UPS - depends from where, size, and weight. My daughter sent home a VERY heavy box - probably 60-70 lbs full of books -from Maine to Chicago and it was $50. . . I have found The UPS Store to be very helpful with quotes/estimates, and they will usually pick up at your house, too. I used UPS when my D was a freshman in Maine and I thought the charges were reasonable for what we sent. . . they have my vote :)
