There's United Colors of Benneton, Banana Republic, and Lacoste in Georgetown, but mostly it is a bunch of upscale boutiques. There are a few mall-type areas in DC like Friendship Heights (although that's right on the border and might technically be in Maryland, not sure). Your best bet is generally places outside the District like Pentagon City, Ballston, Potomac Yard, and Tyson's Corner. Remember, malls take up a lot of room and that's one thing DC has very little of.

Shopping in Georgetown is awesome. Probably too good. There's basically everything you want from ridiculous designer stores all the way down to wet seal in terms of price. The Shops at Georgetown is a small mall that's on M st, so really close, but that doesn't have like department stores. To get to a real mall, just take the metro to Pentagon city, but you probably won't need to leave georgetown ever since the shopping is so amazing.

shopping around the area is AMAZING. i visited georgetown this summer and i was very surprised by the selection around the university. they even have this popular store from europe, Zara, close by. i'm an international student and Zara is very popular around the area that I live in, so I was pretty psyched to see that store:) There are other shops as well, like AiHy mentioned, abercrombie, etc. but yea its mostly upscale stuff...i think there is even a French Connection walking distance from the campus...from what I remember!

On that one trendy street (lol, don't know the name) they have Intermix, which is my favorite store of all time! It's really pricey, but absolutely amazing to have right down the street when there's a sale :P

Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Barney's, Urban Outfitters, Abercrombie, French Connection, American Eagle - regardless of what you wear, you'll be fine.

The Georgetown area has a BARNEY'S??? REALLY?!?!! are you sure? oh, does anyone know if theres a good Mexican restaurant around place? I love texmex nachos haha.

on a more serious note, WHY does Georgetown University have a low endowment fund?!

faloola- The alamo. It's half a block off M st. on like 28th or something, near the movie theater. Usually they don't card, so people go to get margaritas, but it's really sad when they do card.

So what's the etiquette if you're a freshmen without a fake ID and they card?

Like which would be the most appropriate response:
a) Dang, you got me.
b) I, uh, left it at home.
c) The drinking age is 21? I did not know that.

I've been in the area and yes there is a chipolte right in GTown (the section of Washington, not the university itself), I forget the address however
