short-listed students: anyone hear anything yet?

It isn't looking too good, but has anybody gotten off the shortlist?

nop!! i wish i had heard anything, i sincerely lost all hope

me too, i hadn't heard anything at all! :(

Blah! They say that they don't want any more information, but I really want to send my senior report card. grr..

Or, I will write them a letter:
"Columbia. I don't care if there is no room. I will stand in the corner of the classrooms and sleep on the steps of the library."

Nope no response, where are you guys going as of now?

guess i'll stick to cornell

sharkie i was waitlisted from both cornell and columbia, lol

chose uc berkeley over cornell...

i dont see how this short listed thing will really come of anything as early as the end of june (which is what we were told in the email). the only spaces i see opening up would be those that are vacated by a student who had their admission revoked due to poor grades in the senior year. if this is the case, wouldn't final transcripts have to be looked at and notification be made to that student? I know i don't finish school until tomorrow, so if this were to occur it wouldn't be until mid July that final high school transcripts are in and sorted...

it doesn't appear any ivy's went to their wait lists in any great number, and that activity is done. so wouldnt a space, if it opens up, only be from one vacated by poor grades or some other outside circumstance?

I'm assuming we will get our "our class is full, short list has been closed" email by the end of the month. just didnt see the point in short listing us at all if there was going to be no movement anyway...

i will say though that our short list email was very nice about the situation. they didn't slam the door shut and even made it seem as though there would be spaces: "cannot be sure that we will have places to offer any more students" and "there are no guarantees that there will be any further movement" of course make it seem very unlikely, but NOT impossible. :)

wow, this post got very long. i apologize.

good luck to all of us. we have great chioces. be proud of them.

yeah... the beginning of the end is almost here.. 3 days left and no notifications.

so folks. called admissions today. decisions will be mailed out manana.

blah... you mean "rejections?" ... i mean..they said if a spot opened, you'd be notified immediately. i dont know.. im still crossing my fingers.

Jimmy, it's a lost cause

Yup... its officially over.

"Dear Jimmy,

In my prior correspondence, I promised you more news concerning your candidacy for Columbia University.

Our incoming class remains full which leaves us with the regrettable task of releasing the candidates still on our waiting list so that you may go forward with your plans for the coming year. We are confident that the college where you will matriculate this fall will be made richer by your academic and personal contributions.

This has been an extraordinary year at Columbia in that both the quality of the applicant pool and the responses to our offers of admission have exceeded our expectations. We recognize and applaud your record of academic and personal achievement and regret that Columbia will not have the benefit of the contributions you could make here.

I am confident that you will be successful in college and wish you the best in all your endeavors.

Thank you again for your longstanding interest in Columbia.

Sincerely,

Jessica Marinaccio
Executive Director
Undergraduate Admissions

P.S. Please note that a hardcopy of the above was mailed today. "
