Short-term storage at or near NU?

The last week of August, my family is planning a road trip to Chicago. Since orientation starts on Sept. 15, we would ideally like to be able to bring my luggage for college along with me during the trip and store it somewhere near campus. Then, I can just fly in and pick up my stuff. Does this sound reasonable at all and if so, is there any sort of service from the university or otherwise that could hold my luggage?

The alternative would probably be just to ship boxes/carry all my belongings on the plane but we're trying to avoid that if possible.

Thanks for any input!

You can ship to campus starting some time before move in, probably some time around the 7th, so that could work for you. Alternatively, you could get a storage bin for the month at whatever it costs.
Check the new student week website, as that should give you the full details on any options.

You can’t ship before the 10th.

No Northwestern services, but if you have any friends attending see if they know someone here over the summer that would be willing to help you out. I’d offer my place but I’m leaving for study abroad before then.

I just received a pamphlet from Northwestern and it listed 2 or 3 storage facilities. Don’t know if it’s just long term (ie. over the summer) or if one or two weeks would be acceptable. If you didn’t get it let me know and I’ll pm you the info.

The Public Storage off of McCormick is probably the cheapest. But you’ll need to rent a car for move-in day

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Yeah I got the pamphlet but it doesnt sound like the services there would suit my needs; they all seem to be long term storage over the summer.

The public storage charges a good bit and considering i’m not going to have too too much luggage, i think my best option would just be to ship/carry my luggage.

Any idea how expensive it would be to ship your belongings? Anecdotal advice would be perfect.

Lots of people do it, obviously depends on how heavy/how many the boxes are. If you ship, often times the CAs will have your boxes in your room waiting for you when you arrive. There was no feasible way for me to get my stuff from california, so we shipped about 5 boxes of various sizes.
