Academics:
I am from one of the best schools in New Delhi,India and it is very very competitive. We do not follow the American education system so I had to study for SATs, and APs myself, no AP courses. Also keep in mind that the Indian education system is much more rigorous at the high school level vis-a-vis the American high school system.
No GPA or school rank, we follow percentage system
I can only give you the SECTION rank where section is a subset of class. There are roughly 18 sections in each class comprising of 50 students each.
Class 10th- 94.3% Sec Rank-2
Class 11th- 88% Sec Rank-3 (Very tough year for everyone)
Class 12- Exams due, will work hard

Achieved Distinction in the All India NSTSE Science and ASSET Exams from Class 6th to 8th

Recs and Essays:
Will be very good hopefully, I am a good writer

THATS ALL ABOUT ME. LITERALLY. PLZ BE CANDID AND THEN I WILL CHANCE U BACK ALSO.

not sure how you can chance someone else if you need a chance yourself; however, I know quite a few engineering students and some from india also. My advice would not be as consequential as those of former students/ int’l student. Your stats are great and you have volunteer service. you ec’s look great also, and i am sure columbia will understand the differences in the indian vs american system [maybe include a little piece of it hidden in your essay?] All i can advise is to be emphatic. If you want to go to columbia make sure you let it be known in the underlying tones of the application and the why columbia essay. I wish you luck, just remember to remain focused on the goal.

dont forget to end your year in great standing showing that you are serious about your education…and for you essay show something about you that sets you apart, and what you love to do. ie: i want to do mech eng. I love to build and design and I want to improve society with tech advancements. My goal would be to work in aerospace or auto. working with engines and propulsion. my fantasy goal: new space engine that lasts longer capable of farther journeys etc…but i know that is a far out goal <shaw fujikawa=“” drive=“” train=“” if=“” you=“” know=“” what=“” im=“” talking=“” about=“” i=“” would=“” like=“” to=“” meet=“” lol=“”></shaw>

did not bother to capitalize countries and i’s… lol sry

International Student Buddy!

I think you have great credentials. Your SAT I score’s higher than mine too! I would’ve gone for more AP classes, but I don’t blame you for having only 3 because (as you explained) your school doesn’t offer them. I’m sure this wouldn’t be a big problem as the admissions team would understand as well. Personally, though, if you could get a AP Calculus BC grade, I think that would really help. This is an engineering school, after all. But yeah, I think you’re good with academics.

Your extracurricular stuff is awesome, too! Just a little thing, though… I wouldn’t put on anything that you achieved before 9th grade. That and if you could, I suggest you put on a rough estimate of how many hours of the social service that you did.

Overall, I think you have a great chance of getting into SEAS. All you need now are those recs and that amazing essay. Another thing, too, if you didn’t know already: DO NOT APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID. That’s the one thing that will/might screw you.

I really think you have a good shot at SEAS.

but about what Bob6823 said that to not apply for fin aid, i think if you NEED it, you should apply…

cuz whats the use of getting in without fin aid and you cant pay for the tuition?

its all about if you need financial aid or not
