Shot at merit $- honors program?

My son really wants to go to American. He is a junior now and will apply in the autumn. Does he have a shot at merit scholarship money and/or honors program?

Current Stats:
GPA 3.8 unweighted - 3.9 weighted
SAT: critical reading 700
math 660
writing 680

taking 3 AP’s now so GPA should be up around 3.9 unweighted, 4.0+ weighted when he applies in the autumn.

Thanks.

Hi,
I would say yes for merit - as for honors, that depends upon the rest of the applicant pool. It would be great if he could get his SAT's up a little, as 700 seems to be a bit of a magic number, but again that depends upon the pool. good luck! My s is very happy at AU.

Yeah, the SAT's are a bit low. AU's average SAT score for honors students is around a 1440 to 1450 M+V. However with a 3.9, your son could probably pass with a 1400.

My son is also hoping so much for admission/merit at AU. He has 12 AP classes total, all 4s and 5s and will graduate no. 4 of 802. His SAT was 2290, with an 800M and 760V. I have my fingers crossed, because (even though he will be stoic), I know he will be disappointed if it doesn't work out.

ronda,

there is virtually no chance that your son doesn't get merit $. you son appears to be a top honors program material. unless AU is out of its mind, your son is in with mucho dinero.

yes, ronda...it's time for you to plan a getaway vacation with all the money you'll save at AU!!! best of luck! :)

Gosh, I hope y'all are right. He will be so disappointed if not! He really likes American and wants to attend.

Oh, and best wishes to everyone else!
