I was wondering the same thing as several others: if I have a shot at getting into the honors program at American and potentially getting a decently large merit scholarship.

I have a 3.9 GPA unweighted 4.3 weighted
1330 SATs (out of 1600)
Lots of extracurriculars

That’s pretty generic but I know most schools only really look at GPA and SAT’s for honors.

I’m currently a junior at AU, so I went through the admissions process a few years back. My stats were similar to yours, and I was not accepted to the honors program. I did, however, receive a nice merit scholarship. I then self-nominated into honors my sophomore year and now I am in the program.

Thanks for the info! American is my top choice, but me going there depends completely on the money I receive…do you mind if i ask how much you got in merit? If you’re uncomfortable sharing on the thread you could privately message me.

Is the AU honors program really that competitive? I just thought it was one of those 4.0 GPA + >1500 SAT + great ECs + spectacular recommendations + mind-blowingly awesome essay = honors program. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Read twice before the word “humor” crept into my mind…

JRD - same here. D’s got everything going for her except her ACT (didn’t even submit SAT). She’s getting in everywhere she applied (so far), but only merit $ at a safety. She would love to go to AU, and I am cautiously optimistic about acceptance. But FA will be an issue…
