I took a college accounting course in 11th grade and aced it, but I think it’s safe to say I forgot a lot of what I learned. Now I’m entering college as an accounting/business administration major. I could get the credit for that class and jump right into a 200 level accounting course, but I’m sort of hesitant to do so. I remember the basics of how accounting works and some of the formulas, but would it be too much to go into Accounting 2? Would reviewing online be enough to substitute?
I would retake it, especially if you are considering an accounting major. Way back when I took accounting in HS I found that the college course went well beyond the HS course. Worst case it will be a good review and you will have one easier class to start college off with.
I agree, I’d retake it for sure. Just my $.02 (as a CPA for 25 years).
I agree with the above that if you are going to major in accounting, you should strongly consider retaking it as a refresher course or a course to reinforce important concepts that you’ll need to go further in accounting. High school level courses are probably less intensive than the same college course (i.e., calculus). Hopefully you can get an easy “A”, which would be a GPA booster.
Does your school accept a CLEP exam in financial accounting ? If so, I would consider taking that and getting the passing grade. If not, I would definitely retake since 200 level accounting is more conceptual and higher critical thinking. Not saying you can’t do it, but a nice refresher would be good.
I agree that you should retake it if you are going to major in Accounting. You will need the basics you learn in accounting 1 in your upper-level accounting classes.
