I think we’re finally doing the Bed Bath and Beyond run today to get a comforter and other similar stuff.
My daughter’s roommate is probably bringing her own comforter from home, so they’re not going to worry about matching. So we’ll find something my daughter likes, and they’ll make it work.
This is the fun part.

Congrats! This is truly a fun part of the process. I didn’t worry about matching my roommates at all, because my wonderful grandmother had made me a quilt out of scraps so technically it matches everything! Be sure to pick up a foam topper and mattress pad, too! These are a cheap way to make dorm mattresses way more comfortable
Oh, I have a STACK of coupons!! All my friends have been hoarding them for me for months, lol. But thanks for the reminder; I’ll go put them in my purse.
We already have some of the non-decor stuff-- the mattress pad and foam topper, shower organizer and shoes, Keurig, some Command hooks, and a bunch of other stuff.

I’m jealous! My first to go was a boy!!! No interest in any of it! I didn’t get one shopping trip with him! But it didn’t stop me from hitting BB&B and TJ Maxx everyday at lunch for a month! LOL D21 is talking about going to college overseas - she better not deprive me of my last chance at dorm room shopping!! LOL

Pro tips:
Don’t buy new quilts, just buy Duvet covers to go over old quilts if you want a new look.
It’s fun to buy stuff, but it has to fit in a small dorm room.
We went to BB&B, where she found a quilt. They didn’t have it in Twin XL, so she figured we would order it when we got home. She got one or two things to match it, in addition to the stuff my sister got her as grad presents.
Then we got to Target, where we found some sheets she loved, and we totally discarded the old color scheme. So it will mean a trip back to BB&B with some returns, but that’s all OK. I’m a teacher, so I’m off all summer. Aside from having to run to NJ overnight tomorrow for a wake and funeral, and packing for next week’s Disney trip, I’ll certainly be able to squeeze in a trip back to BB&B. (We’re in the suburbs of Long Island… no store is more than 10 minutes away.)
The original was a tie-die grey and white, she wanted pink accents. Sounded kind of dreary to me, though I didn’t say so until she changed it to Navy and white. I like the new color scheme so much better.
We’ll find a white comforter. The one on her bed would be fine, except that it’s long since past its prime
The one thing I really did want to get was a column fan. School starts in August, and New Hampshire dorms will not be air conditioned. So we got that, using the $10 off coupon, and used a 20% off coupon for everything else.
Yes she will like that fan. Have her be the one to set it up so she knows how it comes apart and can stow it back in the box during the winter (and store it under her bed)
