I just got rejected from CSULB. My major was Design. I have a 3.5 CSU GPA and 1250 SAT and in-state. I saw another person get into biomedical engineering with a 3.6 and a 1270. These stats are really close. Should I appeal and chance my major or should I just take it?

Do you have a good basis for an appeal? For an appeal to be considered, you need to show that the school had made a mistake in evaluating your application. Do you have any such documentation?
CSU’s admit by major so you cannot compare your situation with another applicant/student in another major.
Are you in the local service area for CSULB? CSULB gives priority to local applicants so outside the local area requires a higher EI threshold for an acceptance. CSULB is impacted meaning that there are more qualified applicants than spots, so unfortunately there are many very qualified applicants that are denied.
Decisions have only started coming out for the CSU’s so I say wait until you have all your decisions before proceeding with an appeal, especially if you have no valid basis other than someone posting similar stats.
@Gumbymom I also know another person whose CSU gpa is 3.6 and in the A-G matching their GPA came out to be 3.77. This probably means they made a mistake in putting in the classes. Doesn’t this make the process unfair?
@Vandad: The CSU’s will be calculate your CSU GPA based on your reported grades. If there is a mistake on the application, admissions will recalculate the CSU GPA. I would not go by what other posters report since they could have made a mistake on their CSU GPA calculation.
Not sure why you consider the process unfair. The CSU’s will originally intended to give local students access to a good education. Local priority works in your favor at your local CSU. The issue is that there are so many qualified applicants for the amount of spots available at each campus so that is why I always advocate to apply widely and have 2 safety schools in your list.
If you have a basis for appeal w documentation, I would say go for it! I am sending in my appeal letter tomorrow Wishing you the best of luck!
Any update on appeals?
