I’m not a legacy but have decent stats and EC’s that really show my passion, & am hoping to have a very good rec letter. I’m just wondering if it would be against my best interests to apply for early decision? I know the acceptance rate is the same but I’m still curious. I have one other school I really like (Boston university), and it would be nice to be able to compare costs. (I know nyu is expensive lol).
The past data showed that the acceptance rate for ED to NYU is similar to that of RD, unlike many other schools . I don’t know why. It may have long been their policy.
Last admission data might be an exception; NYU’s overall accept rate for the class of 2021 fell to 27% from traditional 35% range, and the ED accept rate may have been different. (NYU hasn’t released ED rate.)
If ED and RD rate are the same, I suspect that applying ED doesn’t give you a lot of advantage. As such, if you apply ED to NYU, you may be giving up your valuable card for other schools such as BU.
FYI, BU’s 2021 Early admission rate is known to be 43%, which is way higher than its RD rate. (I guess BU’s RD this year is somewhere around 27%) Therefore, BU is the school for ED for you if it is the school that you really like, not NYU. I may have missed the big picture here but at least the numbers tell me so. Good luck!
PS. My son applied early to NYU CAS and was accepted. He has far higher numbers for NYU but still applied, because NYU has been his absolute favorite and he just wanted to put an end to college application earlier. Somewhat irrational decision but it’s his decision after all.
