Should I apply ED or RD?!?!

I am going to be applying to NYU Steinhardt for Studio Art. 50% is my portfolio and 50% is my academics. Although I'm fairly confident in my portfolio, my grades and SAT score is not anything special. My GPA is a 3.87. I have three 4's on AP tests in English, Chem, and History. My SAT score for now is 1730 and I am taking the ACT on Saturday. I'm crossing my fingers that I am able to raise my SAT to a 1900 by the October test date and I feel like all my chances are based on if I do. The problem is, I won't know if I am successful in raising my score until I get the results, which have to go automatically to NYU or else they will not get them in time for the ED deadline. Thus my dilemma. What would you guys recommend I do?

I gotta be honest, if you want to go to NYU then you really have to apply ED, 1730 is VERY low for any school at NYU and even if you raise it to 1900 it’s no given that you’d be admitted as NYU has tons of qualified applicants. Don’t paint me as overly harsh, I’m just trying to be honest, I’m in the same boat only with GPA instead of SAT scores so I’ll be applying ED (of course I would be even if I was a shoe in, it’s my dream school), I just want you to make the most informed decision you can, and I think you should apply ED.

Thanks, yeah I’ve been taking practice tests and they are aiming me around 1950 but I don’t want to assume it’s there. For the art department however, the SAT score is weighted differently. You just have to break the 1230 mark for CR+M (which I am only about 20 points away from with a 1730). Plus, I had my portfolio reviewed and they were pretty much salivating over it. But thanks, I will for sure take that into consideration.
