Hey ... I'm one of the person who's still wondering whether I should go for ED or RD for NYU. That said, NYU is my dream school, but I still need to take 2 subject tests during November but the due date for ED is 11/1 ... :"(

(I'm taking biology and maths I)

And the thing is my AP Language and Composition grade isn't that good (B- ... yes, I know it's terrible and my school only adds 0.5 credit to it! I know that NYU would reweigh it to a 1.0 credit, but does NYU look at the grade after credit added or ...?)

Should I go for RD or ED? Would the chances of ED be bigger if I applied for it? But how about SAT II grades? I've taken Chinese (800, yes, Asian), Spanish (550 ... not really good), and World History (550 ... still not really good ... the June one was so hard!) ... and I probably wouldn't submit them because the scores are terrible :"(

(which is why I'm studying very hard for biology and aiming 800 for math I)

So back to the question ... would it be better if I go ED or RD? Is ED acceptance rate really higher than RD? I've heard two sides of the story but still do not know ... :'(

Yeah I myself have intentions on applying to NYU but I know ED is committing if accepted with possibly 20k+ loans if you need financial aid which is why I’ll do RD.

If you need FA, applying ED is not committing. If the FA offered is not enough (common at NYU) you just tell them thanks but no thanks, and apply RD elsewhere.

I don’t to apply for FA, but I’m still worried about whether the admissions officers will look at my AP Language and Composition grade and Stats (B currently) and go like “not qualified” or something.

Would the admissions officer like to see students maintain their grades throughout the whole high school year or improvements? I didn’t do so well during freshmen and sophomore year (mostly B’s for freshmen, then getting more A’s in sophomore) but got straight A’s (yes, ignore the A- and A+, but they’re mostly As) in my junior year. Would it look real bad if my first quarter senior grade had one B- and one B and the rest As?

Is the admissions rate higher in ED then, if I don’t need to apply for FA?

^ Maybe, for some schools. ED is used by schools to lock in money and also top students without money. With the economy hurting endowments, some schools may indeed increase the number of full-pay students accepted at ED time. I would guess that this applies at NYU as well.

If NYU is your dream school, and you don’t need FA, ED seems appropriate.

But the thing is whether or not my SAT score would qualify - still waiting for my October score (hopefully above 1900, but then I heard that a guarentee in for NYU would be at LEAST 2000) and going to take SAT IIs next Saturday, so I’m not sure whether or not I have time for applying for ED … after all, the if the information’s not complete for admission’s office then the officers probably wouldn’t be pleased …

Call admissions when they open tomorrow and ask if those sittings would still qualify. If the student ambassador doesn’t know, ask them to speak to an officer.
