I have a 3.6 GPA so I can probably get into SLO (which is the best CSU)
however SJSU is closer which allows me to save a ton of money and allows me to take care of my mom/aunt at home. I could afford to go to SLO without debt but I don't want to move out for these reasons. Am I really missing out on a lot? Is my frugality crippling me?

You can apply to both and decide later if you get admitted to both.

It is not just your GPA, but also whether you have completed all the required courses for transfer for Cal Poly. If you are missing requirements, it will not be a slam dunk.

I’ve got over 100 units and can get a AS-T in Business Admin so I have priority.

You have priority at your local CSU, but not all CSUs in the system.

@glara11 I do have all the required classes though and a reasonably good GPA. I’d like to think I have a fair shot.

Yes, when you get into both, then come back and tell us the packages so we can make recommendations. It is foolish not to apply both right now. Maybe you should apply to more, such as UC’s

@artloversplus Yeah, I’ll probably apply to the better CSU’s. Should I go for finance? I don’t think I have the attention to detail that accounting requires (you get 1 answer wrong and you get an F on your test).
I can’t apply to UC’s for 2 reasons: I can’t learn a language (because of a bad experience with languages back in high school) and they’re way too expensive.

^^ Lol, Accounting, as I know it, has never one answer. As an accounting major and a graduate of KPMG after 10 years of service, we debate, we differ, but we never had fail some one because one answer is wrong. The boss is always right, at the end, nevertheless. Accounting is not for everyone, some one like Finance better.

You might also try some private Unis, such as Santa Clara or USC they might have a FA package which made it competitive.

@artloversplus I kinda slacked off and didn’t pay attention in financial accounting so I got a B and didn’t learn anything… I’m paying more attention in managerial and am doing okay. But it seems like there’s a ton of little rules you need to learn and if you make a mistake anywhere it usually ends up screwing you over.
The teacher straight up told me that if you didn’t love accounting you shouldn’t major in it. I hate living in the Bay Area with a decently good 3.6 GPA… The schools are either way below me, slightly above my qualifications, or ridiculously expensive private schools. Cal Poly SLO is freaking 200 mile away from my home in the Bay Area for christs sake.
My biggest fear in life is ending up working minimum wage for the rest of my life. That’s why I’m a little hesitant at staying local with SJSU. However I am worried if I dorm I will go broke and lose the money I’m saving towards retirement. I’m sure I may be able to graduate without debt though. (I’m 22/3 with 2 years left in college).
Also worried about losing my GF from being too far away or being unable to take care of my mom/aunt.
