Fin. Aid: Not applying/don't need

I have a lot more to write, but i am in quite a hurry to go somewhere, so this should suffice for the time being. Please be candid and critical, if necessary. I appreciate your time and advice.

No one can be guaranteed admission, but you sound intriguing to me. I'd encourage you to apply. Your grades and stats are good enough, and it sounds like you'll have an interesting essay.

If your req's and essays are as good as you expect, I'd say you stand a very good chance of being admitted to both.

Wow thanks everyone, i'm just afraid my 9th and 10th grade gpa's might be detrimental to my chances (9th grade was basically all Bs - very bad for Harvard). As for my athletics and extra curricular activities, im considering calling up the music department and the soccer coach to look into potential recruiting opportunities. Harvard has an incredible soccer team, and perhaps they are in need of more athletes.

You omitted your current gpa.

thedailypursuit - hey, I posted my current gpa above (3.75 for 11th grade). The 12th grade gpa is just an estimate, based on my performance in similar subjects and my upward grade trend.

I'm not talking about your GPA for each grade, I'm talking about your overall GPA. How else can we compare you to your valedictorian?

Actually your class rank if you know it might be more informative, but you may get a bit of a bump for being an URM. I think you just need to apply and hope for the best - I think your chances are better than average, but average is less than 1 in 10.

Yes, you should apply! You have decent (but not phenomenal) stats, and extremely interesting EC's (Pavarotti!?). Have you considered sending a supplemental tape or something to showcase your work? Also, you may qualify as a URM.

Oh i see, i apologize, my school does not give gpa to students (it calculates for the sole purpose of sending to colleges). Anyway, my overall gpa (based on my own calculations) is around 3.68 (including 9th grade) 3.75 (not including 9th grade). Hope this helps. I know my gpa is low, but hopefully there are other aspects of my app that will compensate for it.

Bump
10 Char

Ok guys - to be honest, i think i'm no longer going to apply. My gpa is much too low, and my guidance counsellor thinks every school on my list is a reach. His suggestion was to apply to georgetown (where i have a big legacy) and just be done with. But i have my eyes set on Stanford. Anyhow, i appreciate your support, and if, by any chance, things with stanford work out - i may look into harvard for grad school.

Well, if you dont want to apply-or wheather you do actually apply- it's up to you. But I think you have a pretty good chance. Your grades aren't THAT low anway and your EC's are spectacular. Unfortunatley, there are no gurantees for such selective universities. Personally, I think you have a pretty good shot- regardless of what your counseler says-. But how can you ever find out for sure unless you apply, right?
