So I got a mail from University of Minnesota.

It says to apply online today at www.uofminn.org/begin
This is a free application with no essay requirement. But because this is so early in the year, will this be considered as early decision? Cause I don't want this to be a binding application. Umm....For how long is the application for this going to be open?

My Stats thus far.
1890 SAT---Super Score is 1910. 600 English 720 Math and 580 Writing
1 AP Class so Far.
91 GPA
Going to be taking 3 more AP Classes when September starts.
300~ hours of community service
Quiz Bowl Player
....

Are these stats good enough to apply or should I wait till I get my credits/grades for the 3 more AP classes I'm taking..

Umm.....yea..this seems like a good school.......besides that........yea....thanks

That’s just numbers, but it’s important that the U of M fits you as a person as well. What are you thinking about studying? What kind of campus are you looking for? Size? Weather? OOS or in state resident?

In response to waiting about AP – in your application you record what prospective classes you will be taking this upcoming year. This way you are able to let them know you will be taking more advance placement courses. The U of M considers that as well.

UMinn does not have any ED applications, it’s just a rolling admissions process. By applying early you won’t be committed in any way. Applying early at schools with rolling admissions is often encouraged as it MIGHT improve your chances at merit scholarships if your stats are competitive. Bottom line…you won’t lose anything by applying early, so if the school is a good fit for you go ahead and apply. Good Luck!!

Thanks for all the replies. I’m from New York City so the size for me is not a big thing. I’m going to guess that Minnesota is pretty cold year round but adjusting will have to be a thing I guess

As to what I want to study that will be somewhere along the lines of engineering and pharmacy/ maybe something biology related

When you apply you need to choose a school to apply to. Biological sciences is one. Science and engineering is another. You may be able to do double majors across schools, or change from one school to another if you change mind about major, but you do need a starting point. Bio and CSE have the highest admissions standards, pretty similar.

App closes 12/15. After that it’s on a space available basis. I think last year some schools were not taking late apps. Though since that is a special free app you got, it may have different deadline. It should say somewhere.

As per their academic profile Biology, Engineering, Business majors are toughest to get in. Your scores are <= average for those majors. There is a better chance if you improve your SAT score a little.
