should I apply to Princeton?

is Princeton a very "techie" school like MIT?
i want to go for the financial engineering program, but I'm afraid that I'm not the science/math nerd type .
i did take all of the science classes offered at my school, including AP chemistry & AP biology and scored 4 & 5 on the exams. but the only B's I got in high school are in science classes (physics and biology). I got 720 on the SAT Math IIc, which i know wasn't that impressive.
should I apply anyway? or do i have a better shot at other colleges?

If you want to go to Princeton, by all means apply. Make a chances thread to get a better response though.

apply there and hope for the best... no point in not doing it except that you will lose sleep thinking about it and you will spend sooo much time on the essay to perfect it and this and that and this and JUST APPLY AND DON'T ASK OTHERS, YOU KNOW YOURSELF MORE THAN ANYONE!

better to apply and get rejected then not apply and wonder forever if you would have got in. i've seen less qualified students get in. it's worth a shot

what do you want to study and why? the WHY is impportant

I don't think Princeton is that much of a technology school. What I really liked about Princeton is the way they incorporate science into a fairly liberal-artsy campus/curriculum. Princeton has good science that is better than that found in most Ivies, but it also manages to not sink into an all-science stereotype.

I would have seriously considered Princeton, except I didn't get in. ED -> Deferred -> Rejected. If it came down to Pton v. MIT, it would be a tough choice.

well the worst thing you can get is a reject and $75 donated

^^^: No; that is not the worst thing. Worst will be that you loose admission to another good school because of that?

This is how it can happen.

Applying to any school where you want to have at least a chance need effort and time. Generally top schools application will take more time than the other schools. Spending too much time on super reach school just because you dreamt about it will take away precious time that you could have devoted to improving your essay for slight reach or reach good schools.

This lack of time for slight reach or reach may cause you admissions at such schools.

I think if Princeton is a super reach and Tufts is slight reach than it will make more sense to work on your Tufts application than on Princeton application.

As a side note, its funny you should pick the Tufts application as an example because it was by far the most time consuming application I had to fill out. I do agree with ParentOfIvyHope though, however if your ready to start filling out applications now, you shouldn't really have that problem.

^^^: I was not aware of that. But the reason I pick Tufts because it is a good school and it might be slight reach for some with Princeton being super reach.

So my 2 cents were not to give up a chance at a good school just because you dreamt of Princeton. You need to be realistic or have infinite time to apply to all the schools.

I don't understand. Just because it's a top school doesn't mean its application takes any more time. Princeton, along with many IVIES and top schools uses the CommonApp. What's time consuming about that?
