I got a 5 on my ap calc ab exam. I also want to get into the commerce school in the future. I was wondering which one I could take? Here are the reasons why I'd take each course:

Calc 1: Even though I did well on my ap exam, if I took this course, I would get a really strong base for calc. It might also help ease me into college life since this course won't be too difficult since I took the ap class. I want to go further in calculus, so this base could really help me out

Calc 2: It might look better for my commerce resume. I might also be ready for calc 2, but I'm not sure.

Applied Calc 2: I heard that calc 2 is the most failed class at UVA. This class is a little easier than calc 2, but you learn more advanced topics in this class than in calc 1. However, I was wondering if this class would put me on a certain track and then I would have to take APPLIED calc 3 instead of calc 3. Could I go from this course to regular calc 3?

I am currently signed up for applied calc 2, but I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

I would not recommend taking cal 1 since you already got 5 on your AP exam. don’t waste your time, life is short.

CAL II

Good backup if you change your mind&don’t get into comm school

Good class to take if you are interested in sciences, mathematics, economics

Applied Cal II

If you are interested in softer subjects or just to meet the CAS requirement

safer for GPA

Still good enough for comm requirement

You can’t go wrong with either choice. I took applied Cal II and did not have any major problems with taking hard upper level mathematics courses…(300,400). There is no Applied Cal 3…so don’t worry about it.
If you are not afraid of CAL II…I would still recommend CAL II. It’s going to help you later since having solid math background is always good…

you have to take calc 2 to continue, so you should take that, but be prepared to work. applied calc 2 is a lot easier if your end goal were just comm, but since you want to continue with math then you should just take regular calc 2. I usually advise against that on this board but you got a 5 so you’ll probably be fine. I had a friend with a similar situation (English major) who ended up with an A in the course so it’s not impossible if you are a hard worker who puts in regular time (ie. no cramming or night-before’s for hw or exams).
