Should I ask a teacher for letter of recommendation that I flipped off (not directly)

Most of the colleges that I am applying to require two teacher recommendations. I already have one from my French teacher and its really good. I am thinking about asking my AP U.S. teacher for one. The only thing is that freshman year, she had been really rude to me, so as she was walking away from me, I flipped her off (i have no idea what possessed me to do it). Anyway, she did not see me do it, but another teacher did and told her. I admitted to it, and got suspended for it. I apoligized profusly and I think she accepted. I think she had forgiven me by the end of the year, because she told me that she would love to have me in her AP class, Junior Year. Anyway, I did really well in her class, I'm pretty sure I was No. 1 or 2 in it. She also told me that I had come up with some theory about slavery and the southern economy that was not in the textbook and made a big deal about it. Anyway, My guidance told me that she writes spectacular letters of rec, so I really want her to write me one. I'm sure, she would oblige its just that I am too peterified to ask her. What should I do?

It wouldn't hurt to ask. When worst comes to worst, you just ask another teacher for a recommendation.

Sure, you should ask her. She probably dismissed the freshman year episode as just an immature freshman thing.

Your guidance counselor will probably review it. Most GC's would not send a bad rec. They would advise student to ask someone else.

I bet she forgot.

No way! It's an elaborate scheme to lure you into just that: asking for a rec letter. She's been waiting all these years for her one chance to get back at you for flipping her off. Teachers are like elephants, they never forget...
