Should I ask this teacher for a recommendation?

One of my teachers really likes me and I did very well in her class; however, I don't think I did particularly well on the corresponding AP Test, and I assume she will see my score before she writes my recommendation.

Should I still ask?

It depends on what your alternatives are. You need to take all things into consideration and then determine which teacher will write you the strongest LOR.

That, but you can even ask your teacher not to write you a recommendation, but whether she thinks a letter from her would be a good idea.

I can’t imagine she would say it was a bad idea. She’s as sweet as can be and we have a very good relationship.

I guess I could explain that extenuating circumstances caused my AP score to be less than on par with my classroom performance. Perhaps I will just wait and see what my options are. I suppose there’s no rush.

Your AP score shouldn’t be an important part of her recommendation. If most of what she has to say about you involves your scores and grades, she’s not the right choice for a recommendation. She needs to be able to discuss you as a student and as a person.

WickedFan , your teacher should not even be mentioning your AP score in her rec anyway, because colleges will know your AP score anyway. Colleges only want a letter of rec because it gives them insight into your behavior during class, your intellectual curiosity, etc…; they are looking for a description of your personal/leadership qualities.
