my English teacher to explain my B in English junior year in a recommendation. I am a good English student, and he had me for sophomore year also. However, my teacher last year was fresh out of grad school (at age 27!) and uncertified. He is not here this year for obvious reasons... We had tests taken directly from Sparknotes self quizzes, ungraded papers, and made up grades. It was a disaster. Anyway, do you think the teacher recommendation would be a way to explain this unusual situation?

I think it would be a waste of a recommendation. It should be about you, not your grade.

Don't bother asking. It's not worth it, I think. It's a different teacher, too, and that shows a somewhat immaturity to go "ratting" on a new teacher last year. It's a B. No biggie, no harm. Senior first semester grades count, too.
