I’m from Indiana, and was directly admitted to Kelley Business School at Indiana University. Since I really want to major in business, everyone I know told me to go to IU. But, let’s face it: UC Davis has much better ranking than IU, 38 vs. 73. Davis is beautiful, nice and it’s in California. I’ve wanted to get out of mid west for so long and I thought college would be the chance for me to go somewhere else. However, UC Davis doesn’t have a business school!!! I mean I know I can take managerial economics in the school of agricultural and environmental science, but, take business courses in an agriculture school??? When I applied to UCD I was thinking to major in Viticulture and Enology, and in the future do business in wine industry, but people said I wouldn’t have to major V&E to do wine business…I mean after all business is my preference…not the food part…What should I do? Do I have any way out in UCD?

I’m also struggling with University of Rochester. Great school. But, its business program is new and the campus is so small…Should I go with ranking??? Please help me!!!

we do have a business school. we just don’t have an undergraduate business major. the closest thing is managerial economics, and you probably shouldn’t judge it on the college.
viticulture and enology is a science, so it would be pretty far off from business.

If you plan on working/living in Indiana after going to any college, I would highly suggest you attend a college elsewhere. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to study somewhere else; I have heard from alumni that their biggest mistake in college was not to study abroad. You seem to be yearning for a different location; you should follow your heart. Live life with no regrets!

But in all honesty, the business program in IU is probably better than man econ at Davis. However, what do you plan on doing after college? Working in finance/accounting firms? If you just want to find a simple finance job after college, then any degree would work. However, if you want to make big money and intend to fly up the corporate ladder and not care about anything else, then do business at IU.
I’m not too sure about Indiana’s economic situation, but a business administration degress is very common for graduates. More than 20% of all college students major in Business Administration. So unless you are really settled in doing business/finance for your career, then do UI.
On a side note, I also don’t know if IU is one of your flagship campuses in your state. If it is, then you are competing with the best students out there. UC Davis is a very good school, but because it is located in California with flagship schools that are more prestigious, the best business students won’t be at Davis so your competition may be lighter.
The man econ degree at davis isn’t really a business degree, but more of a conglomeration of accounting, business, finance, economics, etc. meshed into one. It’s really how you make of the degree that really counts.
