I am currently a 2nd year Mechanical Engineering student at uet taxila. Like 90% up there not satisfied with its academic standards and want to get over this institution. If I opt for any other one at Pak i'm quite positive they won't be any better. Inspite of knowing that leaving this bachelor's degree would cost me whole two years, i wanna go for an other one abroad. Should i be doing that? P.S if i go there i would be applying on full scholarship and what i have noticed here if your app knocks out all the aid requests, you stand more stronger than the one who has applied for financial aid even if you are mr 10 percent and not even comparable to that other aid applicant!!!

Hi there,

I think I can advise you a bit regarding this, but before I do that, I urge you to do a lot and I mean A LOT of your own research.

You have asked a lot of questions and I am going to break down the answers.

Should you be leaving your current course of study? – It really depends on a lot of factors. The biggest one being that even if you want to, you just cannot start over. I’m really sorry, but it just doesn’t work like that! You will most probably have to apply as a transfer. After you have done a certain amount of credit hours, you are no longer eligible to apply as a freshmen.

Financial aid – Again depends on how and where you apply. Fact is that MOST universities don’t give financial aid to international transfer applicants. VERY few do, and those that give 100%, well, let’s just say that there are only a handful of them, if any. To make matters more complicated, these ones are EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE to get into.

I suggest that you complete your bachelors degree in Pakistan, (I know it’s hard but think of the bigger picture) and try applying for graduate studies in the USA.

Some additional info - if you still choose to go ahead and apply to USA now. They will ask you for SAT, TOEFL, and your high school record. So be prepared. Not only that, they will ask for your reasons to transfer among other things.

Simply put, if you have seen how hard it is for an international to get into a US university with 100% aid straight out of high school, it’s probably more than 10x times harder to get in as an international transfer seeking 100% aid.
Lastly, engineering schools are all the more tougher to get into……

Good luck!

Thankyou @EarlyAction95!

I am absolutely alive to chaos there would be for me if i consider applying now. I’ve worked on transcripts and tests and don’t think this stuff would hinder anyway and about the reasons, i have plenty but what really is making me uncomfortable is that applying as a transfer isn’t really my choice so maybe if not Freshmen then Graduate app surely soon!
