Should I be nervous about NYU?

So my first choice, number one college is NYU.. I want to study vocal music and acting/theater, but I'm applying as General Admission for the time being.

I am really nervous about getting in because it is so selective.

-My grades are fairly average.. Mostly A's and B's with a couple C's in two AP classes (though this year, my senior year, I have all A's and B's).
-On my SAT's I got a 580 on reading, a 600 on math and a 550 on writing.
-When I finish high school I will have completed a total of 6 AP classes.
-I was in Student Government for two years (one year as the Vice President of the school) and I am currently the President of my school's show choir, which this is my second year being in.
-I have held a job for half a year.
-My weighted GPA is a 4.6 and my unweighted is a 3.5.. However this will most likely go up once December rolls around and the recalculate the GPAs.

My questions are..
1. If I apply now and send in my transcripts, should I resend them when GPAs change?
2. Should I apply as General Admission (Undecided), or should I choose a major? I don't really have the means of making it to NYC any time soon for auditions.
3. What are my chances!?!?!

You should be nervous about the financial aid (if you need any). NYU is like an insurance company. They deny all claims so that they can pay out as little as they have to.

Oh yea you should think about raising your SAT I scores

Yeah, I’m retaking the SAT in November, as well as taking the ACT for the first time.
I have a full ride from Bright Futures (the scholarship program in Florida) that will provide a general Florida state university tuition for out of state colleges.

Umm If I’m not mistaken, Bright Futures is can only be used for a state school in FL and * very few* private schools in FL

Even if they are paying general florida state university tuition to out of state schools, thats only ~5K

yes you should be worried. a 3.5 uw is not good enough for nyu and your test scores are not helping. btw ur weight of gpa is a little off, can you explain how you got that # or the scale you used?

How have you done on your AP exams? NYU gives you the option of submitting exam scores for three APs (one humanities/literature), one science/math and one non-language of your choice) in lieu of the SAT or ACT. They will also accept three SAT subject tests in lieu of the SAT/ACT. I agree with bacchanal that your current test scores are quite low for NYU (and financial aid for below average applicants is poor).

You don’t have a shot.

I’m sorry if that’s too blunt, but compared to students accepted to NYU, you’re weak in all categories; GPA, Standardized tests, and EC’s. If you do decide to apply, make sure your essays are absolutely stellar.

bachhanal: Yes, it can be applied to out of state schools, though it only pays for what an in-state school would cost. However, I know that it is not the only scholarship/financial aid I am going to need.

collegebound41: I asked for a grade printout today in guidance, and that is what it says on the sheet, so I’m just going by what they gave me.

hudsonvalley51: I’ve gotten mostly 3’s. I got a 2 on my APUSH exam last year, but otherwise just 3’s. I am retaking the SAT next month and I have been studying for 3 months now so I’m hoping to bring my scores up.

Unholy Sigma: I actually appreciate your straightforwardness and I am aware that I’m not above average. I’m just debating whether it’s worth the stress of applying if I have absolutely no shot.
