Need major help.

ok so basically im at a lost here. i have no idea how im supposed to feel about me wanting to be accepted into nyu.

heres a breakdown of my grades.

i have a 86-88 average. its not amazing i know.
i take everything honors. except spanish.
i took three aps my junior year, psych stat and history.
got good aps scores, a 5 and 3s respctively.
i took my sats, and got a 1800 and will most probably get a 2000+ next time.
i took subject tests but did horrible. 550-650 on all three o them.

i have major extra curriculars. i have a job whcih has been goign good for the past year. i also volunterr alot at my synagogue, but i eel like most of my reccomendations for nyu will be coming from there, but out o the different aspects of it.

im goign to be doing ed, but im scared about the finanacial aid packet. i also wanna know, if i take the sats at a sometime later date, after the nov 1 deadline, will nyu still accept it?

i will be applyign to college of arts and science, only cause stern will def not accept me. but i might transfer later i dont know.

Most likely you will not get into NYU, unless you have really great stats…

If your applying to NYU early, I suggest that you get all of your testing done by Oct., just to play it safe. Because they could get your application before your scores, and they have the right to evaluate you, even if your application was incomplete. And I don’ blame you for being scared of their financial package… but because you would be one of the first to get a package because you are applying early, you’re most likely to get a better one.

I think NYU will be a reach for you considering your gpa, unless you blow them away with an excellent essay. Good luck!

people get a better financial aid packet if you apply early?

and i just wanted to know what is meant by stats, and why you think i wont be able toget in?

That is usually the case because you applied early. Sort of like first come, first serve or the early bird catches the worm?

Do not apply to NYU early if money is a concern! Their aid dollars go to top candidates–those that could get into ivies or provide the diversity they are looking for. Their aid packages are very loan heavy–see the current thread on the financial aid board of an accepted student, low income, needing to borrow over $100K.

NYU is apparently the number one dream school in this Country. The unfortunate fact is it’s an extremely expensive school in an extremely expensive city. Most families simply can’t afford it.

I highly recommend you apply ED along with a couple of financial safeties.

I don’t think the GPA will kill you as much as your SAT score and subject tests. Unless you have national level extracurriculars, amazing recommendations, or an inspiring essay, I don’t think you will get in ( sorry to be blunt, but someone had to tell you). I would suggest you sit down with your family and go over the financial situation because unless your family can afford full NYU tuition, do not apply early decision.

“Do not apply to NYU early if money is a concern!”

“unless your family can afford full NYU tuition, do not apply early decision.”

I agree that the OP’s test scores are low for NYU, and NYU tends to gap non-stellar applicants, but I don’t see any reason to avoid applying ED to one’s above-all-others dream school. The worst that happens (other than being rejected) is that the financial aid offer is insufficient, so the student declines the offer and applies RD elsewhere.

Most schools accept new information, like new SAT scores. But I would start finding other options- the economy really changed the future of financial aid awards, at least for some time.
