Should I be worried yet??

Hey everyone! I sent out 9 applications this year (Notre Dame being one), and I have received acknowledgement from 8 of them that my application has been received. Notre Dame is the only college that has NOT sent me an acknowledgement letter yet....should I start wondering if the Postal Service lost the thick envelope? Has anyone received/not received a letter from ND yet?

i still haven't recieved a confirmation that my application is in back from EA haha... i got worried and eventually called, and the lady couldnt figure out why i didnt get it.

Haha! Wow, man. Well, that's certainly "welcome" news to me, but I feel awful for you! Good luck on the ND Decision this April!

oh no no no, i never got the confirmation, but i actually ended up getting accepted :)

Andrew, you never got the big packet? Did they ever send one to you?

alright i guess i was being vague

I never ever got a confirmation letter in the mail after i applied (telling my app is complete, ect) . But, I did get an acceptance packet on Dec 18th or soemthin.

I just got my confirmation letter today, so don't worry about it.

They just told me that they would send it eventually and if I don't have it by mid Feb, then I should notify them, so I'm waiting till Feb 15. I'm just worried because my teacher said that she isn't for sure if her rec got there, because the certified mail couldn't guarantee it for some reason.

RemedyRabbit, call admissions today and just ask if your application is complete. Say you have learned others received mail confirmation of completed applications, and you never got one, so you just want to make sure. To make yourself feel better you can even ask if that one teacher's rec was received (on top of making sure your app is complete). I'm sure they get many calls like yours; it's not unreasonable, and I'm sure they won't hold it against you for calling. But certainly you need to know, NOW, so if there's a problem you have time to remedy it.

My daughter received a confirmation this week that her application is in and complete. We're hoping that these stats & activities give her a least a fighting chance to get in.

We wish that she had applied earlier so that we would have an answer by now. She applied EA to Villanova and got in, but they don't have the same standards. April seems like a such a long way off right now. . . . . .

Class rank 1/400? Stats in range? Great ECs? Please. If she's not in I'd eat my hat. I know stranger things have happened, but assuming she wrote a halfway decent essay and her teacher and counselor recs were solid, I'd bet some good money on her admission.

Docmom - I guess you get a little nervous when you hear about other accomplished students that don't make it into ND. It really is her dream school and its got the toughest admission requirements out of the ones she applied to. We are also waiting for acceptance into Case-Western and the Honors College at Penn State, which are both pretty competitive, but they aren't Notre Dame.

We think that she wrote a killer essay, but we're biased. The teacher and counselor recommendations were great, too. I think that the timeline is the problem right now and not knowing for almost two months. In the meantime, I'm scrambling to get our financial aid info to them by Feb. 15. That's the other part of the picture that will be interesting.

I remember feeling the way you do two years ago. My son was also accepted into Schreyer's at PSU, and Villanova, schools we all (son, husband, myself) really liked, and I still was very grateful he got into ND. I'm not a patient person, though, and I remember hating the waiting! But hey - it's only about six weeks from now, right?

But if you go back and look at the ND acceptances you will notice that kids with high class rank and supporting test scores are almost always admitted - where some get into trouble is good test scores with average class rank. My son was top 10% and I felt sure that was his achilles heel, but he was accepted EA (he had some other things going for him).

I know you're just going to have to wait it out, but seriously, just trust the good Lord in all this and relax a little. For the next two months, inside your own head I'd go on the assumption she's going to be accepted, mostly just because she very likely will be - and then you'll feel better for the next two months :) And hey, if on the odd chance she isn't accepted, you are going to feel just as disappointed as if you didn't think positively this whole time anyway, right?

You're probably already doing this, but to your daughter I'd just tell her she'll be great no matter where she ends up. We thought Penn State was pretty amazing for a state school, and if the kids live in the honors dorms they're surrounded with kids who have their priorities straight (and still have a lot of fun on weekends, I'm sure). Villanova was very impressive, as well, and I would have felt good about my son going there, as well. My son has a good friend from HS at Case and she's very happy there. I'd be positive about your daughter's chances at ND while still stressing the great things about the other schools - I'd think this would help her get through the next two months, as well. If it makes you feel any better, I think she would have had a very good shot at being accepted EA.

As far as financial aid, I HATE this time of year. Taxes get done in a rush, then filing FAFSA and Profile, and I'm always unsure if I'm doing it "right." But we must be because things always seem to work out okay with fin aid - just such a hassle and worry!

Thanks for the words of encouragement Docmom. Now we have a new worry. Penn State Schreyer Honors College sent out "Likely Letters" last week to candidates that they intend to offer acceptance letters to later this month. She didn't get one. Its my understanding that they were sent to a subset of the total pool of accepted honors students. I hope that's correct and they weren't sent to all of the students they intend to send acceptance letters.

She applied EA there, which is kind of making us wonder what's up. She was accepted to Penn State Main in December. Schreyer was her original first choice prior to visiting Notre Dame. Hopefully, we'll know for sure by Feb. 19th which is when they send official offers.

We're also waiting for a decision from Villanova for a possible interview for a Presidential scholaship, but only about 65 students are invited to vie for 42 scholarship offers. We just visited Nova last week for the second time. As you probably know, its similar to ND, but not as selective and the facilities are down a notch from ND, too. Still, its a nice school. Students, faculty, and administration there are extremely friendly and helpful. They also have a honors program, but we won't know about that until after we put down a deposit with the decision on May 1. Aye Carumba! Looks like the stress level will be high for the next couple of months!

Villanova really impressed in different ways. Great architecture, beautiful neighborhood, and I loved the train going right through campus to downtown Philly. I mean, I get it when you say it's down a notch, but I really thought it was a great alternative. My second son will definitely take a visit there.

I finally got my notification letter. EVERYTHING ARRIVED!
