I just got word from one of my best friends that she is going to try and transfer to UNC too. We both went to high school together (in Virginia) and we took many of the same classes in our junior and senior years. Those two years our grades were nearly identical in our similar classes. But the first two years of high school she dwarfed me in everything because I just didn't care (I was a moron, I know). In college she has a 3.8 and I have a 3.79. I guess what I'm trying to ask is if UNC will compare us because we went to the same out of state high school and graduated together. This worries me sick. And it ticks me off because she is a lifelong Duke fan, and I bleed Carolina blue. Oh yeah, she also has relatives who went there and are quite successful. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Did you consider the possibility that... both of you could be admitted?

Given UNC's generous acceptance rate, the possibility is not far-fetched.

If "generous" is 45%. At least thats what it is according to www.collegeboard.com.

Given the acceptance rates of the schools with which it competes, 45% is generous.

Valid point.

Why would you worry about this? First of all, you are in college now so your HS doesn't mean as much, and UNC isn't going to look at that at all, and your stats seem comparable. I think you have a good shot with a 3.79, but I don't know anythign else.
And I think 45% is definately generous. It's one of the best public schools out there and it's a lot cheaper then private schools that arent as good.
