My GPA by the time I will apply will be a 3.25 with a good junior year (Most likely 4 As and 2 Bs in my academic classes). NCSU accepted 1% of accepted applicants with a GPA that low according to College Board (and apparently 96% have a 3.75+...which is weird, since the mid ranged SAT scores are THAT good).

Most of the kids who got in early action this year had a 4.0+ (at least at my school, which is in rural NC), almost everyone who had lower was deferred. That being said, there were a few kids with more subpar GPA’s who weren’t denied, so you never know. NCSU is pretty big on the SAT, so if you score really well on that you might be able to offset a lower GPA. Your junior year is the most important, so if you do as well as you believe you will you may have a good chance. Is the 3.25 weighted or unweighted?

The 3.25 is unweighted…but seriously, they only usually accept people who have never missed an A+ in their entire high school careers? Even the smartest kids in my school get a B+ once in a while, and they’re not dumb by any standard.

Okay a 3.25 unweighted definietly does not take you out of the running. And oh no of course not! Most of the kids at my school just took a few AP classes, and many of them got B’s in them, but at my school that B was still weighted as a 5.0. There’s also a bunch of elective courses at my school that are for honors credit that aren’t too difficult to get an A in, and that boosts a lot of GPA’s. Again, I’m only speaking from the experiences of kids at my school, and have no clue what the stats are from other schools. The kids accepted either had A averages with easier/medium classes, or high B or A averages in more difficult classes.

I’ve gotta say, this is a bit confusing. 3.75+ is what 96% of accepted applicants had- that’s unweighted, on a 4.0 scale. At least the way they calculate GPA in my schools, that means one has to have As and A-s for all three years until they apply. Does NCSU recalculate GPA ‘easily’ or something?

It’s worth a shot. My friend got in with 3 C’s and a 1790 SAT

Well, also take into account that the engineering school is EXTREMELY well-known and competitive, and the kids admitted there would drive the average GPA up; it is also driven up by OOS students, since they are held to a higher student. I’d def say just apply and see what happens, the worst that’ll happen is that they will say no! As for if the recalculate GPA ‘easily’ or something, I’m not sure.
